Salute Chron! We ( and I ) have not had the will, or money, or oppertunity to upgrade to a newer O.S. I have had my computer for years...and has run ROCK solid for years. I loved it. And it's the only computer i have. I need somebody to create a no-dvd patch for me and those in similar situation as i am. We are desperate!

I LOVE(d) Windows 98, and had a very nicely maintained installation for about 3-4 years, and upgraded to Windows XP only about 2 years ago. Believe me, there is nothing in Windows 98 that Windows XP doesn't have but, vice versa, ohhh, the horror, starting with (the complete lack of) stability! :( (And I haven't even mentioned the shit Windows 9x drivers that manufacturers come up with for today's hardware that makes the situation even worse...!) For your sanity, I suggest that you upgrade.

There is not SetLastError/GetLastError Api Call (at least not in hex editor :D )

chron -> you're just checking the exe or have you
actually unpacked it ? (its upx 'mangled' packed),
upx -d wont do it, but it can be unpacked and rebuilt
i havent got time atm to look though... (just had a quick
look)

I never tried manual unpacking. I have been hanging on cracking simple cd checks for years :D

u can unpack it in olly, trace from the start, scroll down a little and you'll see 2 calls to do the imports then at the end an add esp, some value
then jmp realeip
dump from there, rebuild imports.. sorted

prolly due the reason that exe is >30 MB unpacked. same approach as rld, they didn´t fully rebuild the exe.
if they want to "hide" anything they wouldn´t have used upx ;)

I never tried working with a debugger. I only used Olly vor Disasm if Win32dasm failed. But I think I'll go further in the next time to level up.

they used a modded upx, to try and hide things, dump it and you'll see
it sure as hell isn't the old flt :)

Thats a mighty big code section in the crack :D
I guess they don't want to admit that they're dumping all those securom heaps.
Don't see whats wrong... Reloaded has been doing it for ages.

latest rld crack for runaway 2 german looks like a good rebuilded exe...

This is probably because it has been rebuilt from the German download version like Ankh - the Heart of Osiris has been, too.

I don't think Reloaded was able to fully crack the new Securom. If they were there would have been Cracks for Armed Assault and Rayman from RLD.

come on guyz, it should be pretty easy to make a no DVD .exe for Win98SE. Given that one exists for the more complicated XP o.s. We are patiently waiting!

nope "new" fairlight doesn't care about secu-iat in their exe...if you unpack their executable, you might notice that the secu-iat is hardcoded :P
so it will work only on a few winxp's.
they made same thing up with rayman raving rabbids....i couldn't even start the exe (no ingame, no menue, nothing!)....but -ind fix worked, so far. i could come into menue and play...and its real fun :) ....
lets hope flt will notice the problem and do proper cracks.

@Ironman69: The Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 API (functions built into the operating system) is much larger than that of Windows 95/98/ME. If the game's software uses a function that is present in the NT API but not in the 9x API then a 9x version of the crack won't be possible.

joe -> i think the game actually does run under 9x, i think it was posted in some other thread
the reason the crack doesnt work in 9x is because (as stated earlier), the exe crack has a
hard coded import table, which obviously wont have the right addresses for 9x, so fixing
it (the crack) to work on 9x would be a horrible task...

at least now we know why its upx packed

the game DOES and IS supported by Win98SE. And, any fix you guyz or FAIRLIGHT group can come up with to bypass SECUROM cr*p will be a prayer come true for us Win98 users!! Come on guyz you can do it!
F.Y.I. = the original file "IL2fb" is 3.7megs. After fairlight group modded it ...the file is only 3k larger..at 4 megs. The windows 98/ or 98SE crack shouldn't be that hard, prolly smaller in fact.

@ironman69 - its already been stated that the crack has hard coded api va's in it
and would be a total pain to fix, try the ind crack (if you can find it), maybe that will do it.. also its quite apparent that fairlight have 'limitations' cracking securom so until a proper crack comes out use your exe and stop asking the same damned question (6 posts.. same shit) over and over again when people have stated the reasons.. if you're so desperate then crack it yourself. otherwise use the original or upgrade your operating system that has been ditched by the people who made it (shouldn't that tell you something?)
