View Full Version : Neverwinter Nights 2 - DVD drive unhook

LordHalbert2

I noticed that in the instructions for the NWN2 mini image that we have to physically unhook or disable our DVD drives :(

Is it possible to make an image/fix that does not require disabling our optical drives?

I remember Splinter Cell Chaos Theory required this run around untill much later (2 years after the release?) some smart person figured out how to do the fix correctly.

I'm hoping a proper fix wont require 2 years :)

The Poseden Maxi-Image working perfectly! Mount it DaemonTools v4.06
(maybe need DT SPTD updated to v1.35, I tried with 'em!).
Set EMULATION All Options ON. You set ONLY 1 VirtualDrive on your PC (!!).
Start YASU.EXE and make the Mounted drive hidden.
Run new Securom loader (ASR/PROCY/ALKI) and select NWN2LAUNCHER.EXE.
When you exit the game, start again YASU to Unhide (it is important).
I tested my Original Boxed US DVD5 and DVD9 version installed game.
Not needed my Original Media anymore (if an update come out, try again).

So what does this YASU tool do?

Is that like SF Nightmare that hides your DVD drives?

What version of Securom loader are you using?
I have CureROM v2.0.3.1 installed currently - i think that's what you mean by "Securom loader".

With Nforce motherboards, it should only be necessary to disable the DVD drive from device manager. Its working perfectly here in conjunction with a randomly renamed proxycon.exe (My own maxi image, not the one from GCW)

only yasu.exe is needed forget the rest just mount it in newest daemon tools and run yasu , works perfectly here.

Does this method work on the 1.01 version? 1.00 was easy enough to bypass, but 1.01 is giving me problems, and I can't find a no-cd crack for it.

I managed to get by 1.01 using the drive disable method, but then it stopped working, lol. Go figure.

So you're claiming that you only need this yasu and Daemontools?

So I won't need CureROM or some Securom Loader?

Can anybody else verify this claim?

No mechanical actions are required whatsoever.

Mount the image in DT 4.06, sptd.sys 1.35.
Other software with low-lvl drivers on my rig: AnyDVD, Nero, Alcohol *without* virtual drives and the vaxscsi.sys driver.

Disable or if disabling doesn't help - delete (uninstall) your physical optical disk drivers from device manager (will be restored after reboot).

Using regedit.exe, mercilessly delete the HKLM\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi
key in its entirety (will also be restored and rebuilt upon next reboot).

Now you need no emulators/loaders/hiders and so on. Just play the game from the launcher.

Guess it is a temporary solution, but it works fine with full image every time, haven't checked with the mini/maxi ones.

I have been looking for a while and trying out different thing, but nothing works. I have tryed what the person suggested in a different post, but as soon as I disable my local cd and lunch nwn2main.exe and crashes a second later. If I keep my local cd enabled, the game detects my dt-406 with game loaded it and doesnt let me continue, if I use anty-blah, I get cannot access the module error. Is there anyways to get nwn 2 1.02 to work???

And allso I cannot use v1.0 or 1.01 cause I get 128 meg video card bug, which then crashes my game, allthough my vid is 128 meg and it is on supported list.

**The quote below which I have referred to in my text does not work for me. It is just for the reference.**

the latest version is 1.1 not 1.2, 1.2 was pulled because it was very buggy, and there has to be something wrong with your pc if the yasu method doesnt work.

yasu works with v1.0 and v1.01, it does not work with v1.02 since it uses higher version of securom, something higher than 7.28.

Bender image doesn't work for me (gives that same error).
But poseidon one works (with newest DT4.06, SPTD1.35 and YASU 1.01).

It works with both 1.00 and 1.01 version of NWN2.

P22 where did you get the Poseden image? Maybe the one I'm got mine from is corrupted.
From GCW of course. ;)

Although one interesting thing with this image is, that it doesn't include file and folder info, so you can't "open" it explorer and see any files (trying that gives corruption error). But it still does the work of bypassing copy protection.

EDIT: Heh, crossposting...
Anyway, are you 100% sure it works with 1.02?
Without YASU? Did you maybe deinstalled DVD driver (not necessary for 1.01 if using YASU)?

I got it working:

Mount with Daemon Tools, but don't do any of the disabling/deleting drives. After you mount, exit Daemon Tools in the system tray but leave Emulation options on. NWN2 should still be in your virtual drive but D-tools should not be running anymore and you can just run NWN2 normally now.

Edit: If it still doesn't work, here's a link to the 1.01 patch by itself (I'm assuming the game automatically updates to 1.02 now?) so that you can reinstall and not go straight to 1.02: http://nwn2patch.obsidianent.com/updates/windows/english/nwn2_pc_english_from100_to101.zip

Just checked this methog with 1.01 (before trying it on 1.02).
Mounted image, exited daemon tools (leaving emulations), YASU disabled.

And then I get this message:
Please remove disc from current CD/DVD drive and insert the original disc in another drive E:.

(E: is my physical DVD drive)

P.S.
On the other hand, if I just disable my E: drive, game will work regardless do I have daemon active or are emulation options on or off. Not tested with 1.02 yet (just 1.01).

I got courage to test 1.02.
And here are my observations.
YASU is blacklisted (nwn2 won't start).

But, if I remove YASU and keep running daemon tools, game will work.

So, I have no idea what SecuRom guys are doing, but it seems while YASU is blacklisted with NWN1.02, Daemon Tools is not anymore.

Step 2. Download Poseden image from here http://m0006.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_neverwinter_nights_2.shtml

Step 3. Mount the image and run the game. Should work with version NWN 2 v1.02 too. (The image won't show up on the virtual drive)

hey,

"what does could not find any compatible Direct 3d devices" mean?

This could be due to your graphics card or driver not supporting DirectX 9.0

Just a couple of questions to try and diagnose the problem:

Does the Display tab in dxdiag state that Direct3D Acceleration is 'Enabled'? This can be found in the 'DirectX Features' box. If so, try clicking 'Test Direct3D' to ensure that the 3D acceleration is functioning properly.

Also, what graphics card do you have? This is displayed in the 'Device' Box on the same page.

All it says is CD Drive but it's there make sure you check under emulation "All options on" then exit Dt or not I did it both ways and works fine, when on exit it asks "keep emulation options on" click yes and thats it.

The image works fine, I updated yesterday to 1.02 and it works great make sure you have SPTD 1.35 installed, YASU didn't work with me so try it without it first.

Hopefully this will help someone else...

I tried the various mini/maxi images and only had a little bit of luck with the posiedon version; unfortunately it locked up my PC fairly regularly due to some kind of bug it DT. I finally got things working for my English, North American DVD release, using patch 1.02. Here's how:

1. I made a full image of NWN2 using Blindwrite (I tried Alcohol, but had no luck; perhaps I was using an older version?)

2. Mounted the BT image in DT406 and the latest SPDT. Did NOT enable any kind of emulation, and did NOT use YASU.

3. Game works. Every time, with no lockups or crashes.

YucK, cannot understand why this sucker aint working for you man?

You tried a complete re-install of NWN2? - clean all the shit from temp dirs etc?

Have you tried with DT 4.03? - just a thought.

I will give reinstalling another shot. Then I will post back here with all the steps I did. Will also try an older version of DT. When I install Alcohol120 it said that SPDT was installed with it. This should cover DT aswell?

Edit: It did not work this time around either :( Any help would be great. The only thing I have noticed is that it takes quite some time to mount the image in DT and A120. Around a min or so I'd say. The same goes for extracting it (although that could be because of the size).

Is it possible to make my own? Or would I be better of trying to get this one working?

My first post, after the time I wasted on NWN2, I decided to give back to the community.

After sharing the same experience with Yuck...trying everything and nothing working...I was ready to give up. I consider myself a very good methodical troubleshooter and giving up was one of the things I don't do very often, especially when so many others say theirs is working.

Low and behold, I decided to do a total reinstall as a last ditch effort. Luckily it paid off. I have repeated it on 4 machines and all of them work with the exception of one machine not having a good enough video card.

Here is a step by step for those that might still need:

1. If you have tried to make it work, do an uninstall. Do not just delete the directory, but do a full uninstall. You can reach it in the Atari submenu of your start menu. If you do it correctly, it should ask you if you want to keep your save games. I chose "no". ( Do not skip this step, I know it takes a while, but I fiddled with my old install probably well over 4 hours...)

2. Make sure you have DT 4.06HE and SPTD 1.35. You can find links to both of these on http://www.daemon-tools.cc .

3. Physically disconnect your cdrom drives. I did this by disabling my primary and secondary IDE controllers in the BIOS. I knew I could do this because my hard drives are SATA. You can also just unplug the power cable or ribbon cable from your CDROM. I tried the "Disable" in device manager and that didn't work for me. You should only have 1 CDrom (virtual DT) at this step.

4. Do a full install of NWN2. Also now perform update to 1.2.809 or whatever.

5. Now run YASU and make sure it says it hid your DT cdrom. You can find this on http://www.gamecopyworld.com Only run this once!!!

6. Now mount the Posidean Maxi Image with NO emulation options in DT. You can also find this image on http://www.gamecopyworld.com My maxi image wouldn't pull up in Explorer, but the game didn't seem to mind. Once I followed the above steps, it fixed my crashing and "emulator detected" errors and everything ran like a dream.

7. Then run NWN2 from the start menu. Mine fired up on all 4 machines!!!

Good luck and I hope my first post was constructive!

so essentially...

clean install of the game.. dont run it
install dt latest version and latest sptd
physically disconnect any cd / dvd drives.. << probably how you got it working
mount the image
run yasu
run the game..

disable not working for you in device manager is probably chipset dependant too

yeah well but yasu is blacklisted with patch 1.02, so your guide must be wrong.
i just have to mount the image in dt and it starts with 1.02, i tested this with 3 different pcs, if that doesnt work then something else must be wrong with the sys.

P22

YASU 1.02b is not blacklisted with patch 1.02.

Although I was able to run the 1.02 patch without any loader sotware (no YASU, no proycon, no anything), just DT4.06 and nothing else.

apart from the complete reinstall i tried everything posted here, but no luck.

however, I noticed that when I closed Daemon Tools and try to start nvn2 anyway, it still says 'Emulator detected' which is a bit of a puzzle.

As far as I know I didn't install (knowingly) other emulators although I did install nero.

So, what gives ?

TippeX
14-11-2006, 10:49
nero cant emulate a damned thing, so its not nero (though safedisc did blacklist nero at one time.. unsure if they still do)..

daemon tools is more than just that exe, its drivers and so on... whilst they're on your system and active then you'll have emulator detected....

If anyone's interested Virtual CD 8.0.0.2 works with NWN2 1.02. And seems to be working fine, you'll need 5.80gb of space though. I've played well into act I with the original DVD and installed Virtual CD 8 and played about 3-4hrs with no problems so far and it seems nippier to play too.

Using DT4.06 with SPDT 1.37, poseden Maxi image.

Had that crap game running for a while, simply using yasu, the 'original' image file loaded with dt 4.06. Worked good even with 1.02 update.

then i accidently started the game with a CureROM profile which nwn2 promptly detected. afterwards, everything was fucked up again and it detected emulators no matter what i tried.

I also was having problems with the copy protection but since I made a full image with alcohol of the DVD I've been playing with the 1.02 (and now the 1.03 beta) without problems. Don't use the ones that are in gamecopyworld, make one yourself and mount it with DT without any emulation on...

Hey folks... Now i´ve got this terrible Error directly after Chapter One.. My "Points of interests" in the Main Map are deleted.. Lots of Gamers have this problem, too.

Someone at Bioware´s says, that this will be fixed @1.03

So, i have also look for "crackfree" gaming possibilities. first with Patch 1.02..

I´ve tried:
Poseden + BenderMaxi-Image
Yasu 1.02b + 1.03
Securomv7.26Loader
AntiBlahv1.0
DT 4.08HT Emu-Opts ON/OFF

Only the Combination Poseden/Bender+ DT 4.08 Emu ON (Exit DT) + Yasu 1.03
gives me no "Emulator detected".. but NWN2 crashes with the main Windows Error. In all other Combinations, Emulator will be detected.

But: i dont remove the cables from the physical drive...i´ve only checked "deactivated"...

I think, this Windows Error dont relates to NWN.. maybe from Yasu?

Someone more ideas to beat the Securom 7.2.xx??

But thats not my attempt.. i want to use NWN on my Notebook..but Securom dont allowe me using the DVD with the DVD-Rom of the Notebook....

Sure!
The emulator is also be detected...

Even with original disk?
Then I guess you have some of blacklisted programs working in background. Try to turn them all off (virtual drives, etc...), and then try with original disk.

The reason I say this is just to make sure, does the crash behavious happens due to the game itself or due to copy protection.

Hi, new here. Had only just started using images, so yer can call me a newbie.

Ran into a problem yesterday. I used the image from GCW(can't remember the name, the 2nd link?) and had no problems running it with DT 4.03 only. Then later, I created an image for my FM07 cd and mounted it to play.

After that, without mounting back the NW2 image, I accidentally started the game and it told me to put my CD in the drive and try again. So I mounted back the NW2 image, but this time when I ran it, it says it has detected the emulator software(presume that would be the DT as I don't use anything else) and asked to remove it. I was playing NW2 1.02 without any problems previously but now I can't get it to work again.

Could it be because I tried to start the game without the correct image and then it(it being SecureROM I think :o ) realized that I am using an emulator and has blacklisted DT? I've tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling it, but it stays the same.

Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers in advance.

Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
2GB CL2 Corsair TwinX

I'm using DT 4.08 and YASU 1.02b, my NWN2 version is 1.03840 (newest).

So... I see no reason why it could not work for You guys (at least until next patch is released;) ).

I have tried everything posted on MANY forums in getting this to work.

The following is what finally worked:

Poseiden Image (Image #1 on GCW)
DT 4.08HT Emu-Opts ON
DT Still running

What made this work for me? Two things..

I moved my virtual drive from S: to G: (apparently it doesn't like high letter drives.. it gave a 'orig CD not found' type error with drive as S:) and also ran the game immediately after mounting the maxi-image in DT.

So.. the steps:

1: Install DT 4.08
2: DL + unpack Poseiden image
3: Set EMU options to on (ALL of them) in DT
4: Set EMU drives to 1 (prob not mandatory, but what I did)
5: Rename the EMU drive properties to something normal (I named mine SUNY DVD-RW 2.1a .. also prob not mandatory, but what I did)
6: Mount the image in DT
7: Immediately click on the nwn2main_amdxp.exe (might work with the launcher, but did not try it)
8: Play!

Hope this helps someone else, as this thread helped me a ton.

Ok i've read this post all over but i haven't found exactly what i'm looking so i'll just post it here....

I have the DVD Multi 5 version of the game (Spanish-French-Deutch-English-Italian), and i've made a two dvd copy backup of the game, it installs ok and if i use the crack it works fine, but then i want to update it to v 1.03 so it gets fixed up and all that stuff, but then i tried this:

Installed DT 4.08 latest, downloaded poseidon image, mounted on dvd drive and put the original files again in the nwn2 folder (i'm using the crack) and proceeded to run it via the image but then i got nothing, i mean apparently it passes the copy protection because it doesn't send a message back but after the splash screen fades nothing happens, and i'm wondering if it's because i'm using the DVD Multi 5 version, because i don't know which version of the game is the poseidon image file.

Sorry for the long post but i need help guys....

I can mount the poseiden image with DT and hide it with YASU. However the game crashes before it can start by whatever combination I do. Anyone know what the reason is?

Hi!

I also had lots of trouble with patch 1.02 and mounting my image.
Finally, I got it working:

1. I use my own image (direct dvd-image created with alcohol 120%, DPM Speed: max)
BUT: I guess it's not important which image you use. You just should not use any crap stuff like with Nero created images!!

2. I use Daemon Tools 4.08 HE / 1.38 SPTD

3. I can start the game via "nwn2main_amdxp.exe"

BUT: Now i come to my solution:

It can happen that this error message appeares:

Original Disc not found! Please insert Original Disc! (just sense-translated -.-)

4. Now start Starforce Nightmare and disable CD / CH1 / CH2. Close it and start NWN2.
-> Now you will get an error message, that says that Neverwinter Nights 2 caused an error and has to be closed.

5. Now start Starforce Nightmare and enable CD / CH1 / CH2. Close it and start NWN2 via "nwn2main_amdxp.exe"!

Now the game should start every time, if not just repeat step 4&5!

I don't know why it works. I just know that it works. Yeah dudes, that's a fool's luck. ;O Perhaps someone knows why my method works for me

Now it should work! - It almost works for me so perhaps this post can help someone.

after reading some of the comments here especialy the one by "Ahile"

i decided to register to the site to share the way to fix the "neverwinter nights 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close...blah blah blah"

what i did is to mount the "poseden_MAXI_NWN2.mdf" with DT 4.06
then run YASU 1.04
then go to nwn2 directory open the file nwn.ini and change the "CD0=X"
where "X" is u have to put the cd letter which DT image uses.

after i done this i could run the "nwn2main_amdxp.exe" which previously allways crashed.

nwn2main.exe still crashes but perhaps thats because i have AMD and XP :D

by the way i have the latest patch applied 1.0.3.840!

Hope this helps at least some of you guys ;)

I don't why this thread is so long. I'm a nub but have had no problems at all with this method (soz if already posted by others)

Install NWN2 Full.
Auto-update to 1.03
Install Daemon Tools 4.08HE
Mount Poseidon Image .......NO i mean NO emualtion enabled. (All OFF for nubs like me)
Run YASU. latest (will tell you ur image drive letter is hidden)
And play from normal Launcher icon.

Works fine. Never had problems.

All the DL links for mentioned programs can be found on GameCopyWorld website.

NB I was playing Evanescance The Open Door in my physical DVD drive while doing all this. So don't know why others had to physically unhook their drives.

ok nwn 2 isnt workin for me and i will let you guys know what i have done so far, hopefully who had this problem knows how to fix it, i use DT 4.08 and yasu (newest) also curerom (old one)

start!
i mounted the nwn 2 iso (reloaded) on dt to install the game
cracked the game with reloaded crack
no update jus v1.0 and ran the game
IT WORKED OMG.... i created my hardcore dude and started the game, in the tute after i get the fur and talk to the other dude i exit the room, BLUE SCRREN!!! some kind of memory dumb, computer restarts.
ok i skip the tute, BLUE SCREEN, computer restarts

second
i read somewhere that the crack will work for v1.01
reinstalled the game update v1.01 and crack it
same problem

gave up for a few days waiting for a solution

third
found this forums and tired the stuff posted here

reinstalled, update to v1.03, dl the maxi/mini image
disable my cdrom drive from device manager, mounted the maxi/mini image and turned on yasu, hhmm... it just said it encountered an error and needed to exit

forth
reinstalled, updated to v1.03, mount the maxi/mini image, created a profile of nwnlauncher.exe, turned off yasu, it actually worked, but again when i click on that door or exit the tute, blue screen.

i think my problem is different then urs, i can start the game fine but then the blue screen comes up and resrtart right away,

any ideas, do u think the installation is corrupt, should i hide dt during the installation?

man im ganna get the original cd in bout a month but really wanna play this NOW.... thx in advance

Agreed, it's not easy to find the drivers for the non-mainstream nVidia GPU's. This page: http://www.nvidia.com/page/forceware_geforce_go.html suggests that the usual nVidia ForceWare drivers are supposed to work with these notebook chipsets, too.

Hi guys, first off thx to everyone who's posted their help so far, I've read through them all and tried various things here is my problem:

I am recieving this error:
"Emulator Detected! Please deactivate virtual drive and emulation software."

I get that error after these steps have been followed:
1. Installed the game v1.0 the updated to v1.03
2. Updated my D-tools to v4.08HE and installed SPTDinst-v138-x86.exe
3. Downloaded and unpacked the #2 of NWN2_bended from GCW
4. Mounted NWN2.mds [the bended image]
5. Tried both of all emulation on and all off and then exited D-tools
6. Ran the shortcut from my desktop
7. Recieved the error

Note: I'll also mention that I did run v1.0, saw the intro cut scene, main menue, created a character and started a campaign but once in the game, something must have been wrong with the graphics because I could hear things and see the main interface but the world was not loaded... info on v1.03 suggests this is fixed in their new version. Also my computer meets all the min requirements based on: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com and Atari's list.

If I to use YASU, I recieve the following error:
"A required security module can not be activated. This program can not be executed."

Could there be any other reasons it still can see i'm using an emulator? Should I try alcohol or something else? The toolset I got with YASU included procyon.exe, I tried to run it.. not really sure what to do with it though.

Any suggestion or guidance as to how I can continue to trouble shoot would be great. I really wouldnt want to physically disconnect my DVD drive, but it sounds like most people didn't need to do that.

Thx guys,
M

Just to make notice, that older DT (4.06) had bug with its SPTD driver which made computer lock up on reboot, if using NTFS compression.

Glad that it's fixed with DT4.08.

Hi guys,

Trying to run NWN2 version 1.03 but with no luck.

It worked fine at version 1.0 but the graphics were very choppy and the framerate was rubbish, so I upgraded to 1.03 and I'm having much the same problem as a few on here.

Basically, I mount the image in the latest Daemon Tools (I've tried three images, Posedon, Bended and the iso of my original dvd) and tried with emulation options both on and off. I've tried closing DTools down and leaving it running and I've tried running YASU with everything and I've tried it without YASU running.

I've disabled my DVD drive and DVD-RW drive and I've even unuinstalled them and I get nothing every time.

With my other DVD drives enabled, I get the message that the game cannot find or authenticate the original disk. So I uninstall my DVD drives and the game looks as if it is going to load and then I get an error with the main.exe and it closes again.

I've tried everything and I'm now pulling my hair out!!

Any ideas?????

EDIT: I've now tried it again with the 'Bended' image from GCW and even though I'm using YASU and have closed DTools it is saying 'emulator detected'.

Any ideas?????

I did the same thing with my best friend. The game has 50Euros (without taxes - 49.99 actually) and we give from 25Euros each to buy the game, plus taxes (59Euros total). That way we support developers, but we cannot afford to buy 2 full copies. Because, in fact, we forced to buy 2 new VGA cards to play the game. (We had GeForce FX 5200 128MB AGP - the game is not playable on such card.) We don't have the chicken with the golden eggs.
What do you think about that? And I know about rules, but life is hard and money are no easy.

I've a working NO-DVD version of the NWN2 1.03840 (most recent version) in my notebook.

Here's what I've done:

1. Mounted my [MULTI] DVD ISO (created from the original files ofc) of the game with daemon408-x86.exe (most recent version of DT) and installed.
2. Closed DT with all EMU ON.
3. Updated the game through the "Update Neverwinter Nights 2" program.
4. Mounted the poseden_MAXI_NWN2.mds in DT (poseden image from GCW).
5. Closed DT with all EMU ON.
6. Started the game through the shortcut.

Working like a charm and as you can see I didnt use YASU, Disconnected/Removed my DVD Drive.

Possible reason why its not working for you:

1. You're not mounting an ISO from the original files. Probably its a ripped/cracked version.
2. You've sh*t blacklisted programs in your computer. (Possible from other games, cracks, you name it).

You cant get simpler than this.

Have fun. ;)

01. Remove any SecuROM hiding tools like CureROM or AntiBLAH etc.
02. If you already got the "Emulation Detected" message, simply uninstall the game. It is probably not going to run now.
03. After that, get rid of all the tools I just mentioned.
04. For a safer shot, get rid of Alcohol and DT too.
05. Enable all you physical drives... and for the love of god, stop disabling them already! This is not StarForce... never do that!
06. Have ready at hand, the following: NWN2 Original, NWN2 Update v1.3, DT v4.08, YASU v1.05, & Poseidon MAXI Image
07. I’d recommend getting the patch file instead of the AutoUpdate. The official NWN2 forum has a dozen of threads about this.
08. Your game must be updated to v1.3! If you have issues, fix them before continuing!
09. Install DT v4.08 and create a virtual drive.
10. Install NWN2 using the standard stone-age methods. DONOT RUN THE GAME YET!
11. Apply the Patch v1.3. DONOT RUN THE GAME YET!
12. Copy YASU to a permanent folder like Windows folder
13. From the command prompt, type: YASU.exe -a (Will work if YASU is in current directory or Windows folder!)
14. This will add YASU to windows startup and it will always hide you virtual DT drive (which we still have up until now from step #08, BTW!)
15. Extract the Poseidon MAXI Image to a folder or drive
16. [OPTIONAL] Extract the MAXI image to an NTFS drive and use NTFS Compression on it to reduce the size again. (.MDF file --> Right-Click --> Properties --> General (Tab) --> Advanced (Button) --> Compress Contents to save disk space (Check) --> WAIT… THIS WILL TAKE TIME!)
17. Mount the Poseidon MAXI Image to DT’s Virtual Drive
18. REMOVE your original DVD from the physical drive (or un-mount it if you had made an image of it and mounted it on another DT’s Virtual Drive…)
19. [OPTIONAL] If you want, remove the DT’s tray application but leave the emulation options ON!
20. [OPTIONAL] Play

No need for YASU or any other software other than DT to run the lastest possible version o NWN2 which is: 1.03840 (not 1.03835). I recommend updating your game through the Updater software. Why you ask.

Answers:
1. You cant screw the process.
2. You'll get for sure the original patch for your specific version. Mind that for instance there're 2 versions 1.03 (short description). 1.03835, 1.03840. If you download a patch saying it is 1.03 you'll never know what version you're getting.
3. The updater is there for something, and god bless it is there.
4. The updater will update itself if it is outdated.

In case you missed my previous post here's the basic step to run the lastest version possible simpler than any other method said in this forum:

Working like a charm and as you can see I didnt use YASU, or any other potentially blacklisted crap program.

Possible reason why its not working for you:

1. You're not mounting an ISO from the original files. Probably its a ripped/cracked version.
2. You've sh*t blacklisted programs in your computer. (Possible from other games, cracks, you name it).

Possible solutions for you:

1. You dont know if you have sh*t blacklisted programs in your pc ?
1.1 Solution:
1.1.1 Format, reinstall windows, enough said.
1.1.2 Make an ISO from the original [MULTI4] DVD game.
1.1.3 Use the step-by-step provided by me.
1.1.4 Play the god damm game.

Tips: If you want to play online use your original cd-key.

Have fun and dont complicate what is simple.

Alrightz, I did everything you said, and it's still not working. I'm, getting "Original disc could not be found or authenticated."
I'm not sure what you meant by part 6. What shortcut do are you talking about? Is it perhaps the reason I get the error?
Also I have YASO 1.5 and Magic Disc installed as well, but not running (in case you think they might be causing the error).
Anyways, the game worked before the 1.03 patch, I'm thinking about just reinstalling and updating to the 1.00.7 and calling it good, I just don't want to because of the bugs. I hope you can help...

Doesnt matter if you are not running YASO or other emulation software. There're registry entries, dlls, and alot of other things that is enough to fingerprint you're using a blacklisted software.

Since I dont know what you've installed in the past or what software you have the first obvious solutions is a format (not the quick one). I cant help you no more because the simpler solution is there and its working perfectly.

Where do you get [MULTI] DVD ISO, and what does [MULTI] and [MULTI4] mean?

I created an image(with alcohol. I don't know what to do to make it a full image though. I just let the options stand at default) NWN2 from my original nwn2 DVD, and did everything you describe. I downloaded poseden_MAXI_NWN2.mds (is it supposed to take up only 49 kb?) from GCW. I have daemon408-x86 so I mounted poseden_MAXI_NWN2.mds with it and tried to run the game. (After updating of course).

The game still tells me that the DVD is not authenthicated, although it is the original. (I've tried with the DVD in the station at the same time and without)

Please help me. I am new to this stuff. I would also be greatful if anyone could help me to clear up whats wrong with my DVD drive. It's an AOPEN DVD RW ISU8424E, and it has given me problems before with games like nwn, hitman: contracts and deus ex 1 and 2. All those games were original with working cd-keys. I have the latest firmware on the DVD-station and it doesn't seem to be any BIOS upgrades availiable.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I deleted alcohol120% after making the image, and I don't have any other programs except for NERO burning utilities that came with the laptop when I bought it.

EDIT2: I made it worked. I had just mounted the .rar file. How stupid of me...

Anyway. I still want to know whats wrong with my DVD-station.

And THANKS A LOT for the guide. Prizeless!

Dunno what AOpen is but it doesn't seem a good brand to me; use Pioneer or LG instead. If it doesn't read your original discs, contact the publisher - although, I'm sure they will tell you exactly what I wrote: buy a new DVD-ROM drive.

As for creating an ISO (from your original disc, as the poster you've quoted wrote), read the forum FAQ for backup guides. "[MULTI]" means that the game can be played in multiple languages; "[MULTI4]" means 4 languages (my guess: English, German, French and Spanish). Yes, an MDS file is that small as it contains only structural information from the original disc. Create the accompanying MDF file yourself, with Alcohol 120%, from your original disc and put the two files together; NOW you have a working image that you can burn or mount. Nope, Nero is not good for any step of backing up copy protected stuff.

I suggest you read the forum FAQ; most of this is already explained there!

NEC also has some good DVD writters. The posedon mini-maxi image works perfect in tandem with DT 4.08. I didn't need YASU, either. So update the game at v1.03 through the NWNupdater, mount posedon mini-maxi image and enjoy. Most of the posedon images worked perfect for me in tandem with DT 4.08

Create the accompanying MDF file yourself, with Alcohol 120%, from your original disc and put the two files together;
And remember both files need the same name, except the extension (MDF & MDS) of course.
So once you have created your own MDF file, rename one of the files so they both have the same name. ;)

Btw 1.03.840 crack was released and uploaded at GWC today.

Of course, since 1.04 should probably arrive in a few weeks, I guess mini-images will be again useful very quickly.

You are right. But I don't hope for a crack but for a better way to patch the game. Having 7.2 gb free for a patch is absurd. I know that the patchn practically backing-up every single file, but this is ridiculous. the critical rebuild updates for the original NWN were doing excatly the same, but they didn't need the same amount of space as the game for doing the patching. i've seen a few of the bugfixes supposedly corrected in v1.04. Most of them are MP fixes or gamebalancing. Other bugs still lurking around seems that won't getting fixed in version 1.04 either. Oh well....

If i use the cracked 1.03 exe file with the 1.04 beta, will the beta additions still be there or will the game just run as it would be version 1.03?

I'm wondering cause i can't get the cd autorization check to start at all before i get that damn message "a security module can not start." bla bla bla

Yes, i bought the game.

If use the crack for v1.03 on the patch v1.04 beta, you get the features of patch v1.03. NWN's patches always are doing an exe update, so your only chance would be the posedon mini-maxi image available on gamecopyworld cracks section. Mount the image in the last DT(4.08), you might need also YASU 1.05.

@Joe
From what I can see Gold Dragon only asked about 2 people going halves, he didnt actually say he did it. ;)

However duffyduck did say he and his friend went halves and he also says he is aware of the rules.

@duffyduck
We have rules here, they are here for a reason, that is to protect this site, regardless of what you or others might think!

You may think I am harsh but you are now banned from these forums for 3 weeks! Long enough for you to find that chicken and purchase your own copy of the game!
Life is hard but our rules are simple and must be obeyed. ;)
The reason why I was banned it doesn't exist anymore. I will have NWN2 till Saturday (possibly tomorrow) as gift from my parents and I got back the 29 Euros from my friend.

I also got Age of Pirates retail/box as gift from another friend, because I helped him build his new computer. He gave me his retail/box for myself, he didn't want the game anymore.

Rules are rules. See you....

YASU 1.07 is out, so it maybe work with the 1.04beta + a mini image. Can you point me to the topic where I can found info on how to create a working mini/maxi image?

Instead of reinstalling the old copy, try first with the "Neverwinter Nights 2 v1.03.840 [ENGLISH] Fixed EXE" this "no cd" version works fine for me, and i´m using it with the spanish version. There´s no need to mount any image, just replace the files in the game folder (keep a backup of the old ones for futures updates) ;)

Question:
Have you guys seen or felt a difference in overall game performance within the game with the fixed-exe? game loading times, FPS, etc??

because with the fixed-exe, there should be no access to the DVD for protectcion checking, and therefore, game should run smoother...

any comments?

just one more question : is the 1.00.788 the standard version after the first installation? (so to install the v. 1.03.840 patch i just need the last one in the list --> 100788 to 103840)

Correct, you need the 100788 to 103840 patch. The retail is version 100788, at least my retail/box DVD.

It is a great game I played a little this weekend, but the main reason is what character/class should I choose? My favorite class is Paladin. And the best races for such class is Aasimar or Human. I'm thinking a dual or triple class character e.g. Paladin/Divine Champion or Paladin/Warpriest. These 2 combinations must be the best choices for a starter that want the Paladin class, like me. A Fighter/Weapon Master is an interesting choice. Also a very interesting combo would be a Paladin 6lvl/Fighter 4lvl/Divine Champion 5lvl/Neverwinter 9 5lvl
I finally created a human Paladin 9lvl/Fighter 6lvl/Divine Champion 5lvl. It has great feats such as:
Divine Might
Divine Shield
Divine Resistance
Sacred Vengeance
Extra Smiting
Extra Turning
Divine Wrath
Smite Evil
Smite Infidel

Power Critical Longsword
Improved Critical Longsword
Weapon Focus Longsword
Weapon Specialization Longsword
Cleave
Great Cleave
Power Attack
Blind-Fight

Str 17 Cha 18 Const 14 Dxt 10 Wis 14 Int 10

Plus I can use Tower Shields (as a Fighter)

This character can kick ass with a powerful Longsword: Holy Avenger
I hope I didn't forget something. This character created with the cheat: givexp
I just wanted to seed how to build a very good combo. I think I will develop my non-cheat character like this.

Mods,
You are hosting the IND crack with filename "nwn104870.rar". This is the RuGCW.com crack for 1.04.860 update. The cracked files have build number 854, their version is 1.04.854. Just check the CRC32 checksums. Both IND and RuGCW cracked files are the same.

With the old update 1.04.860 the original exe files have version 1.04.854.

With the new update 1.04.870 the original exe files have version 1.04.870.

So, although the cracked files from RuGCW or IND are working, they are not a proper solution as they are for the old 1.04.860 update.

The Fairlight crack uploaded on GCW is the same with IND and RuGCW. I have the Fairlight release and it actually says: 1.04.870, checked and double checked and confronted with what's on GCW right now. Either the link on GCW is sending in the wrong places(RuGCW release), either the uploader made a mistake by uploading the wrong crack. I add a rapidshare link as again I have some troubles uploading:
http://rapidshare.com/files/19174746/Neverwinter_Nights_2_v1.04.870_Update-FLTDOX.rar.html

Just compare the versions on the exe files.

Patch 870 addresses only couple of small issues with game editor, so you can play fine with 860 (854).
