Hey guys, got a problem with this OLD OLD game...

I got the original CD (yes, it's mine!), but the game isn't working, I mean, it canīt find the CD.

Already used:

the CLASS crack (from the old RIP),

this fix (1.2):
http://home.comcast.net/~heavyweights/games/kain/index.htm

the lost worlds xp fix:
http://www.thelostworlds.net/BO1-XP.HTML

and nothing :(

dunno what I can do... :(

Error message:

any solution ? please..............

thank you very much.

Does anyone know any fix for that ?

thanks...

Do you have many CD/DVD-devices?
Or also some virtual devices?
Some games don't accept all device letters.
For example only D:\ etc.
So try to check this.
Also open regedit and search for any entries of this game.

I have no other idea at the moment.

This game is a bit hard to get running on a new computer, but there are ways...

First go to http://shortfilms.tk/ and download the Legacy Of Kain XP Update.

Then you will need a slowdown util that slows down your computer to a maximum of 1200Mhz. There are some that are recommended, but the util "Turbo" (available everywhere) worked very good for me.

This is AFAIK the only way to get the game running on a modern WinXP computer.

EDIT: I can't get this game to work anymore since I upgraded (just tried), so I fear that maybe AMD C&Q is giving me problems... sorry mate.

Hum, I only have 2 CD/DVD devices,
Drive E: (CD)
Drive F (DVD).

C: (partition 1/HD)
D: (partition 2/HD)

Thanks

Muyfa666, thanks, but I'm already using the patch from the shortfilms.tk link. No luck there....

Can't get the game working to slowdown....

tks.

You solved it? If so, please tell me how, since I couldn't get it running this time.

It was pretty simple when I had all the files necessary to be able to actually test the crack. The crack is already up on GCW; apply it to the main EXE and watch the changes with Hacker's View or something.

If you mean that the game doesn't work with my crack; yes, you need to use that CPUGrab software (see the small docs) to slow down your PC, otherwise you won't be able to move your character already at the very beginning of the game. (As saulob confirmed, that's not a crack-related problems, it occurs with the original, too!)

Got it to work with the CPU Grabber, but if I use the v1.2 unofficial patch, the game already runs without a CD.

Good work nevertheless. Cheers.

Weird, it did NOT run on my machine, even with that 1.2 unofficial patch. (That patch obviously did a few things in the code around the CD checks but I added a lot more changes until it started for me, too...)

I'll save your crack, along with the patch. One never knows if it's needed in the future... ;-)
