View Full Version : Spellforce 2 without StarForce.
Is there anyway to play spellforce without installing starforce. Its not that I just want to bypass it , I dont want it getting on my system at all ( for understandable reasons). Also I am unable to play the game without the original disk. The mini image files are rejected by starforce after it makes me wait for 5 minutes.Any help would be appreciated.

My SpellForce 2 is SFed but this crack didn't worked for me... at first, it asked for "pcre3.dll"... i had no such file... googled it and found one. Placed it in the same dir and now, upon executing the crack exe, nothing happens...

@doomerdgr8:
And you really have the EU version with patch 1.02?
No idea why it doesn't work!

Yeah, everything should be ok.
No idea why one file is/was missing.
Is the version of your pcre3.dll 6.4.2194.685?
And how big is your SF2 directory?
Mine is 3.644.971.454 Bytes (of course with patch 1.02).
Do you also have WinXP SP2?
Have you tried to reinstall your game?
Maybe (but I don't believe) you need to install patch 1.01 and then patch 1.02.

Please don't throw your mouse at me but... i kinda got it to work... heh...
well, a long time ago, i got tired of waiting on this crack... then, outta nowhere, came along X3 crack... i was happy beyond describable...
it was then I uninstalled SpellForce 2 and it was also then, my PC rebooted in a bad way and hence the install was cut half!
so the missing file(s) error and no exe activity as there were no resources (texture, sounds)...
just re-installed, patch v1.02 only and playing!
X3, SF2, SC:CT, & POP:TTT... they are all fixed and no more StarForce driver/malware on my system anymore!
10x for the replies... i should have been awake enough realize the small folder size...

You have to apply the patch BEFORE restarting your system after installing the game.

To avoid getting Starforce on my PC (and any other nasty copy protection rubbish that might be on a game CD) I install the game on an emulated hard-drive/operating-system using Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. Then copy the installed files to my main PC and use a NoCD crack.
Some games won't run this way because they require registry entries etc., but it works most of the time.
I used to have to re-write my hard drive every 6 months or so, but since I started using the above procedure, I haven't had any problems or noticeable slowdown for over a year and a half. Maybe coincidence, maybe not. :)
I wish everyone was honest so we wouldn't have to fool with such crazy wastes of time as copy protection. Think how many man-hours are wasted trying to develop copy protections, and then trying to avoid the trouble they cause :p

That's a good idea, but...
When you buy the game, you want to play it.
How long you can wait for a crack to come out to install & enjoy the game using your method?

You do realise all PC's no matter whats installed onto them will naturally slow down anyway. So A year and a half sounds like fantasy to me :P
But anyway, even if installed onto Virtual PC it still installs the protection, perhaps on the Virtual Drive yes but its still there.

Maybe you don't get his point DABhand: he doesn't want the Starforce drivers installed on his "real" computer.
To avoid formatting the HDD every 6 months he installs the game on a Virtual HDD and then just copy the files from the vHDD into his real HDD. This way, the SF drivers are not installed on his real windows and doesn't slow down his real PC performance.
While with the Virtual PC he can just delete the disk and it's over.
