Hello everybody,

I noticed that the fixed of knights of honor 1.03 on gamecopyworld doesn't work. I updated the game and replaced the exe file. Now I try to play the game but it gives me an error that the application had to be closed down.

Could somebody help me plz or tell me if it's only me who has this problem, or everybody else too.

And it does work with the 1.03 update applied but without a crack?

BarryB

Joe, the 1.03 update only works on SP2 if Windows Update KB917422 has NOT been applied! Something to do with kernel32 being updated and a badly rebuilt 1.03 crack!

@Lord marf: The only way to get it running is to install SP2 and not install KB917422!

This information should be added, as a note, to the crack on the download page, shouldn' it?

BarryB

Probably, I know it won't work on SP1 as someone I know has tried it! So it looks like a badly fixed crack that only runs under SP2 with a specific kernel32.dll!

Can you, please, add a request about this in the GCW Support Forum? Thanks!

I tried it with sp2 installed without installing the KB917422 update, it still doesn't work

Strange? It works for me, I HAD that KB update installed and it wouldn't work, I removed the KB update and it now works!

My kernel32.dll version is 5.1.2600.2180 if that helps.

Lord marf

I have the same version, but it doesn't work.

Not sure then, I have every Windows Update installed except 917422? You did apply the 1.03 update first :) Just had to ask.

When I try to launch the game, it gives me following error:

Then, when I look closer, I see the following text:

And at the end:

And there is also a .txt file, here it is:

With all that information, could somebody help me plz or was it not necessary to put all this on the forum?

well from the info, it caused a memory exception area somewhere in kernel32, so conclusion would be that the exe's api calls are fucked (bad params passed), bad rebuild probably, or not designed for the os you're running on the txt file is really an xml file too.. good old microsoft

@Lord marf
You havent actually told us if the game works, with the update but 'without' using the NoCD crack, in other words does it work when you use the original disc to play?

Lord marf
21-09-2006, 12:06
Yes, it works with the originals without the no-cd placed on the exe.

Isn't it strange that the crack is only 2.33 MB and the exe more than 5 MB? Just a question :)

TippeX
21-09-2006, 16:38
naw, cracks are usually (really depends on the protection) smaller, as the protection code sections are sometimes removed etc.. but it really does depend on the protection, the cracking method (eg: loader), and the crackers skills

Lord marf

Does it matter if my game is in French?

Or my Windows XP Prof. in Dutch?

TippeX
22-09-2006, 07:02
not if the game is in english, and the crack too

sometimes cracks work on multi language releases of the game
sometimes they dont...

quite why you'd have xp in dutch and try to play a french game is quite beyond me .. are multi lingual and like to torture yourself ? ;p

Lord marf
22-09-2006, 07:51
Not to torture myself, lol. It's just that both languages are my mother tongues.

Lord marf
22-09-2006, 07:54
So should I have the english version of the game?

TippeX
22-09-2006, 09:23
yup, could be a language issue, maybe the english crack is not compatable with french, you could try looking around for a french crack perhaps one exists
sometimes the language changes can be in the datafiles, sometimes it can however be compiled into the exe, that could be the issue, sadly there is no real way to check, most of the cracks out there are for the english version, as well its the 'dominant' language, so more people have it etc...

To see what it would do I installed the KB917422 update of windows XP, and now it doesn't give me the error again,
but it doesn't launch the game at all, nothing happens, so I'm gonna uninstall that update again.

Does someone have another idea? Do you maybe need windows xp home edition instead of pro?

And why is my game in English when I install it on my laptop, and is it not in French? :) Strange, isn't it. My game is only in French, so that's really odd.
But it doesn't work on my laptop either, so.

TippeX
23-09-2006, 04:24
cant see xp home vs. xp pro or whatever really changing things, hmm on the laptop the games in english, okay that rules out the exe having language specific versions.. i still maintain you like torturing yourself however ;p

try running the exe maybe in compatability mode.. really running out of ideas here

Lord marf
23-09-2006, 06:50
And it's strange that without the update installed and with the 1.0 crack put on it it works. Too bad the game crashes after a while because the patch is not installed.

No Bumping

BarryB

Is replying to a 'bump' to say 'No Bumping' considered 'bumping' too? And is replying to a request to not 'bump' considered passive 'bumping'?

@Barry
Yes and Yes. ;)

Hope Grumpy don't ban me for this suggestions. ;)
If you don't like it, delete it. I'm not trying to help anyone who don't owns the original game. :p

With the latest patch (1.03) for Knights of Honor, the "bug" for Daemon-Tools have been fixed, so NOW you can mount your "self-made image" of the CD2 with RMPS.

And for the EXE as a crack, I didn't try it out....I always make a mess with the cracked things and even uninstalling something of Windows. :D :p

Prefer a good crack or nothing! :D hehehe :D
