i have the game unfortunately didnt pay attention when i bought it and got the cd's instead of the dvd.

anyway, i installed the game and patch it and it works fine off the disc. but the problem is when i put the correct no-cd to any patch and run it the FEAR.exe process becomes active for about 3 secs and then dissappears with no onscreen activity. if i run the config file and hit Launch game it loads up no problem.

i looked around briefly but maybe im not searching the correct terminology. any help would be nice.

i installed the game and patch

Which patch did you install?

There are NoCD cracks available for up to v1.04 only, no higher as yet.

it does the same thing for all no-cd cracks with their respective patches 1.0 1.01 1.03 1.04 and the 1.04 with 1.05 and 1.06. currently the game is working with the 1.04 no-cd on version 1.06 using the config file to run of course.

i had it working at one time all the sudden this BS. even after multiple reinstalls. one thing i havent tried is a registry cleaner. dont really trust them with XP64 yet. and b4 u say oh then it's probly xp64 recall earlier that i had it working fine at one point.

not really too big a deal the game is working since i pointed the shortcut at the config file only 1 extra click which isnt too big a deal and i'm already at intervention 9. game crashed when i went to quick save. grrr.

I have FEAR at version 1.06 and am using the 1.04 no-cd patch and I run WinXPx64 as well. I startup FEAR using the "configuration utility" and the "launch FEAR" button. I run the game at 1024x768 so I dont have a problem, I dunno if you wanted to run it at a higher res.

Anyways, I get the same problem with the crashes and the quick save. I think there is a small memory leak with the no-cd patch or something becasue it is a bug with x64 Whenever it happens to me(I quicksave at a constant in that game becasue I played it on the hardest difficulty) I jsut restart my machine and start playign where I left off. I have to replay the area since my last quicksave, but that was usually only a small battle of some kind. It helps to run FEAR after a reboot and to not have any extraneous stuff in the background like quicklaunchers or chat programs becasue they use memory.

Hope i helped :D

ya i was running at 10x7 also with max settings and v sync. even with SLI 7900GTX's 12x9 at max would frequently cause my FPS to drop around 30 or less in the more intense environments. unacceptable so i ran 10x7 so they stayed above 60. i beat the game in 2.5 days of casual gaming on moderate difficulty. i think it crashed only twice maybe 3 times all the way thru. with the variety of saves the game has it wasnt too big a deal to lose a quick save anyway.

the original problem i'm having with the no-cd not working makes me wonder if one of MS's updates is causing the problem since the game used to work. dont see why it would only affect this game tho. anyway it's probly not worth the headache since i already beat the game. thx for the input all.

The F.E.A.R. 1.06 no-CD patch is already on GCW. Another reason not to mention ***, which - you're right - is not welcome on this forum... ;)

immediately after finding the game fix on the other site i checkt GCW and they didnt quite have it at the moment. while GCW is always the go to site for fixes in general, sometimes other sites will occasionally have the jump on em regarding the latest patches.

*to the powers that be*

i've tried everything for fear 1.07 to do it without hacks. even ISO'ed my FEAR DVD and mounted it with magicdisc... hmm, maybe i should find one that does securom more efficiently.

but why don't you try GameJackal (www.gamejackal.com) its legal and saw it in action in the UK while on a business trip at a local gamer's paradise (lan party pay per play) called P.O.N.G - progressive online network gaming. you pay and it makes a 'profile' for games that require CD's, so after that profile is created.. you no longer need the CD. it isn't freeware, but IMO, not needing to swap CD's/DVD's for gameplay is priceless.

also, a tip... if you use xfire - turn off xfire in game chat in the options->games screen for FEAR, it will cut your FPS in half if its on in FEAR. i found this out on xfire's forums - http://www.xfire.com/xf/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=46810.
