View Full Version : Flip-Top cover but no dvd burner?
Hey I am sort of new to modchips on the ps2 ( have done psp firmware downgrades..etc..) anyway I was thinking about getting 'PS2 Flip-Top Cover with Swap Magic 3.6 Plus' with that I could back-up games and simply use them with the flip-top. So far this seems like the fastest and easiest way of using back-up games. But what I wanted to know is will I have any problems since I dont have a dvd burner. I do have a cd burner. I wanted to know if a cd burner is good enof for the job?
Also do you guyz recoomend anything else besides the flip-top thing? I need it in NTSC format and I really want to have online play! :D

So much to learn in so little time.. "So far this seems like the fastest and easiest way of using back-up games." You couldn't be more wrong here.. It sounds good on paper my friend but eventually this will be your worst nightmare.
If you try to backup without a dvd burner you're in for even more inconvenience.. Way back before burners were affordable people had to modify games so much that it took hours just to make one backup. They had to lower video quality.. remove potions like movies.. music.. etc.. It was a lot of work to shrink a dvd (4.37GB) down to a cd (650/700MB)
A decent mod chip like the Matrix Infinity or the Crystal chip are great long term solutions.. This requires you have your console hardware modified of course.. and it might cost to have it installed unless you're skilled with soldering irons. With a chip and a good installation you're looking at about 100 bucks.. You can get cheaper if you choose a cheaper modchip.. This investment.. along witha cheap 16x 75 dollar DVD burner will save you a lot of headaches..
Besides backing up your ps2 games you can backup your movie collection aslo.. It's more than a single use solution.
A lot of forum members have gone the Flip top/ swap disk route only to be let down .. The swap discs don't support every game.. Also having to change discs 2 or 3 times everytime you want to play or just have to reset the console gets to be a hassle.. (I tried this and was unhappy with the longterm results)
Do yourself a favor and research modchips and installers.. and also maybe shop around for a dvd burner and see if it's doable.. Let us know if you need any other advice.
I couldn't have said it any better myself Neipas :)
