Finally they got wiser.

Sam, this isn't strange, that official patches remove copy protection:

- Drakan - 445 patch
- Unreal - 221 patch and above
- Unreal Tournament - 432 patch and above
- UT2003 and 2004 also are "crackable" using official patches.
- Black Mirror [POLISH] - StarForce taken off by official patch from OniGames
- Keepsake - offiicial patch removes copy protection too...
- Doom 3 - same here, 1.2 and above
- Quake IV - same here...

I might find some more examples, all I have to do is look...

Hi,
Richard Burns Rally v1.2 is another example, Gothic 1.08k (or j, dunno...the version numbers are weird)

There are many games :)

Gothic officially cracked releases are 1.08 and 1.09 (the second is European release). Well, it proves the maturity of some developers that understand the fact that an old game has less chance to be released in warez, in fact most of the titles were warezzed long ago before releasing the patches mentioned and even though they were pirated, they still were sold in countless original copies. Therefore, the developer didn't feel the need to be a pain in the butt with copy protection and removed it.

Imperial Glory is also an example - with the 1.1 Update the Copy Protection was removed.

More interesting is the fact that CDV (the Publisher of Cossacks, Panzers and many more titles) says that they will never use Starforce again - that are good news . . . :D

Oh and this reminds me that a Polish cheap full game magazine PC FUN published Panzers Phase One for 10 PLN (about 2.5 USD) and without starforce!

that's why we love cheap polish magazines, eh? :) every game shipped with no protection :D

Not every game, but lots of 'em. Terrorist Takedowns are all 4 unprotected, but Psi-Ops (in CD-Action, a few months ago), is StarF*u*c*k*ed. Thing is, that the price of some games, even with S&H to US included, makes some of American retailers look bad.
