AOE 3 Patch - Need help

I would like to pre-patch my backup (the original was legally purchased) so that it is version 1.06 - Is there anyway that I could find out what files were being replaced and/or added to the game by the patch? The only way I could think of is by going through file by file and checking to see if it was any different to the original - this, however, would require alot of time. I also thought that I could simply extract the patch, but I can't - or I don't have a program to do so.

Could anyone help me?

I think there is no way for this, because of almost every installer checks the filesize and crc during installation.

Would that be connected to the MDF check which you "can" on some installers turn off?

you could use filemon from sysinternals to monitor which files the patch modifies.
