ok heres my story. i have a v5 ps2 modded with a messiah 2....everything was fine for 4 years untill the laser died, now ive replaced the laser 3 times!! each laser dying after about 1-3 weeks of use and im really fed up with the whole replacing the laser thing. so ive decided to buy a slim ps2 and mod it, ive heard alot of people say the slim ps2 has a stronger laser. anyways what are some good slim ps2 mod chips? ive heard of the matrix infinity and the dms 4 lite and pro i dont know the differance between the lite and pro but if theres other please fill me in. i want to just get a ps2, mod it and be done and not worry about all these problems

thanks

Sublime, Sorry i didnt reply to your earlier post, just been busy :). The reason the lasers keep burning up is because they need to be set using a multimeter and if you have no experience doing this it can be very hard to get right. If your going to buy a new console The Crystal chip 1.1 is a great choice as well as the above mentioned chips only with new consoles the use of a HD hasent been solved yet.
If it was my console i think i would get in touch with Spedmetal and see what a new laser with install would cost. This way its cheaper and will probably last another year or two. By then i'm sure you will be wanting a PS3 anyway :)

that figures. i was just taking the laser and putting it in. i have a multimeter but have no idea how to use it lol i bought a 20 dollar one from radioshack and when ever i set it to ohms and put it on my laser it says -0 the OL every single time on every setting. another thing i was thinking is to mail the cd drive part of the ps2 to the place i bought the laser from have them adjust it/install it so when i receive it all i have to do it plug it to my ps2. the laser i have now i think is as good as dead i manually rotated the dvd screw on the laser very small turns but it never worked

You need to send the complete console to the laser installer. I have never seen 2 consoles set exactly the same. This way you know its correct.

ok i emailed them asking if they do installs. i have a few questions on actually using the ohm reader to measure the voltage of the laser, this might sound stupid but ive never done it so i dont know how. im assuming the ps2 has to be powered on while you try to get a reading, what numbers should the laser be at, i read some where it should be around 1200-1500 ohms i dont know if this is accurate. if i can some how save this laser that would be great but if i cant they are willing to let me exchange it for a new one
