edit the config.ini file and add the following text to the end:

bindc +DIK_GRAVE (console_showhide)

this will allow you to press the ~ key and open the console.

in game, press ~ and write:

sv_cheats 1

and then one of the following:
(only godmode tested, don't know if others work)
(1 -activates, 0 -deactivates)

game_godmode 1
suicide
g_developer 1
cl_showinfo 1
g_fly 1
g_noclip 1
map mapname
