View Full Version : Oblivion works fine with DT 4.03
I simply made an Image using default settings in Alcohol's Image Making Wizard, mounted it in DT 4.03 (with no special options selected) and Oblivion works just fine without the DVD in the drive.
ProtectionID v5.0c gives me:
[!] File appears to have no protection or is using an unknown protection
I'm thinking about buying the game. How is it? I'm hard on cash, so I don't want to waste any :(

will buy it because
1. this is REALLY REALLY REALLY worth it
2. i want that 120 page guide to the world included in the coll. ed. - i think it *MIGHT* help playing the game ;)
I just played some levels Graphics-9/10 Gameplay-9/10 Story-9/10 there are tons of tweaks to try. It is running so well on my medium PC. I was able to copy the dvd with NERO. I now use that copy in my dvd burner.
Hey zellar you said ur running Oblivion on medium on ur PC, what are u computer specs? b/c I'm wondering how it will run on mine.
Sorry don't mean to troll your thread...
Just curious on what protection exactly the game does use. Surely aray is just saying that because it hasn't been updated?
I haven't used a protection scanner for ages, but remembered a couple years back that all they seemed to do was keep a database of games and their respective protections without actually scanning anything other than the obvious .TMP files or whatnot...
cheers, :)

true, this method was used by clony xxl wich is outdated anyway.
protection id and aray are scanning the exe for special byte patterns.
i.e. the oep of safedisc and starforce is generic. so u just need to cmp bytes at oep, check iat, pe-header infos and some more stuff to get a working detection...

Actually zeller said the game is running well on his 'medium PC'. He didnt actually say he was running it in 'medium' settings. ;)

P.S. I think that emoticon says it all.
EB Games is known for releasing games to the public early.
I walked into the store as they were finishing up making all of their pre-order calls..and happened to pick up one the last unspoken for copies.
So if your  implied that I obtained the game through illegal channels, think again
I don't think the game HAS any copy protection...honestly, I think you just have to have a copy in the drive, or an image mounted.
Using MiR to make a mini-image of the image I created didn't work though :(

The conclusion of all these Posts is: Oblivion has a simple CD Check which checks the contents of a file on the DVD/CD
i beg to differ, an alcohol 120% image was released on the newsgroups, the nfo stated the game was protected with securom 7, so there is a LOT of conflicting reports going on at the minute about the game
So i think we will have to wait and see when someone buys it and analyses the exe / tries to make an image etc (and/or sends the exe to someone who knows how to detect protected executables etc.).... someone reliable that is :)

Why should i think so? You gave me a reason for that?

I can't believe that a game like this, which took a couple of years for programming comes without a copy-protection!!!
But i will see by myself this weekend, when my legally bought copy of that game arrives. ;)

Perhaps, this is an early game from the new generation of games without (significant) copy protection...?
(Damn, woke up again!)
I bought my copy yesterday at my EBgames here in Ontario. It was around 12:30 pm. I just went there to see when they were getting there shipment and it was there. He said that he was allowed to sell as the release date was Mar 20/06. As far as copy protection I don't believe it is Securom7. I copied the contents of the dvd into a folder then I made an ISO with MagicISO and mounted the ISO and it worked. I then burned the ISO and I'm able to play the game with the copy in my dvd drive. As far as my medium PC my PC stats are in my sig...There are enuff tweaks in the game to get even low end PC's running it well. Mine looks great and runs nice and smooth!!! What a great F'in game!! Get it..play it....live a new life!!

Dude, way to be an ass. The ship date for the game was the 20th, with most stores recieving copies on the 21st. I just picked up my copy from Best Buy about 1/2 an hour ago. So if you want to wait till the end of the week to get your "legal" copy, please do so. That will leave more copies for the people that actually want to get a copy.

I see you're making friends here, huh?
People are just jealous of people who got their retail copies early
I don't have to prove anything to anybody..I bought the game..scanned it with Protection ID v5.0c final and got nothing. Installed from original, created an image with Alcohol, mounted it...and I'm enjoying my legally purchased game.
Kudos to Bethesda for NOT using Starforce ;)
I was simply trying to help people out who were either trying to decide whether or not to buy it (I won't buy a game that I cannot play without the CD/DVD) or what they had to do to get it working without the DVD.
All of you pirate-accusing jerks can kiss my ass :D
edit: aw screw it.. here is your proof:

Not looking to make one out of you, how about that. Don't accuse people of pirating software just because you didn't bother to learn the ship date.

I never talked about a pirated game in this thread! Read it and understand!
I only wanted to know where he got his game from!
Not really you did accuse him, read the 1st page and your first reply.
Here, I will help to defuse the situation. :)
I believe 'thE reaL M.A. Rapman' has just committed a simple typo, he has put in a 'Full Stop' instead of a 'Question Mark', let me explain.
Where did you buy the game? Official release-date is tomorrow? It isn't released by the publisher yet.
The last full stop should have been a question mark, then it would have basically read:
Where did you buy the game? (thats a question)
Official release-date is tommorrow? (that is a question, same as saying 'Official release-date is tommorrow isnt it?'
It isnt released by the publisher yet? (If the question mark had of been included here then it would have been just another question, meaning 'It isnt released by the publisher yet, is it?)
So yeh like I said, to me its just a simple typo. :D ;)

English isn't my spoken language! Sorry @ all!! my mistake ;) :D
But yeah I got my TES4 through courier today and been playing it a bit, I could make a simple image and play from that.
Great game, very different and hard to get used to since tes3 is similar but very different.
i just bought my copy from eb store in my home town Im Not meant to do this really!
people will do anything if you ask nice enough :P
I copied the contents of the dvd into a folder then I made an ISO with MagicISO and mounted the ISO and it worked. I then burned the ISO and I'm able to play the game with the copy in my dvd drive.
Hiya,
Would you be so kind as to explain in more detail how I make the game run with MagicIso? I've never used the program so am totally new to the concept.
I'd really appreciate your taking the time to help me with this.
Thanks
Sufione
I was just trying different ways of running the game...I was trying to find out why there wasn't any strong copy protection. MagicISO was just one of the ways I used to get it working. There is a NODVD crack out for it now, so you really don't need MagicISO for this! Anyway, MagicISO is very easy to work with. Not much to tell you about the Prog.
Thanks for the fast response. Sorry, but I don't see the crack. Where can I find it?
Sufione
@sufione
You can find the NoDVD crack here (http://spacetarget.com/games/pc_the_elder_scrolls_4.shtml) at GCW. ;)
can smo send me a link to a file
" tes4.obliv.mds "
thats the missing file :(
thanks...
