no i actually havent used any sf soft like sf nightmare etc cause i am not that desperate to play SF games. i read how sometimes sf backfires and guys have lost their hdd's.i was just wondering hows it possible to happen. imagine someone who dosent have a optical drive.will his drive not work too.(i no thats a silly question but after looking at the inside of my pcfor 2 hours trying to figure things out thats the only question that pops in my head.)
any way any body can help me
thanks.:)

Try this, check the jumpers for your harddrive..

Some makes have this stupid master/slave/CS set

Instead of being straight forward master or slave, they have single drive, Master with slave, etc... Really stupid :P

So make sure it isnt Master With Slave or similar, and just set it to Master/Single only :)

The harddrive should be master not the DVD-rom..

Once set to master, go into your bios and make sure it sees the harddrive and change the bootorder to boot from IDE-0 or HDD-0

well i replaced the cables of the master and the slave and rbooted the comp the computer goes into windows but in the bios it still shows pata master as dvd and pata slave as hdd.there is no option there to change it manually(in the drive config screen in bios).so i disconnected the ide of the dvd rom and went into bios and there it showed the pata master and slave both not detected.well my friend says here i should reset bios to default so the bios will now take the hdd as the master and not detect the slave.should i do this ? even if i do it how will i change it again when i reconnect the dvd drive as u cant change the settings of master and slave in the drive config option inthe BIOS.

It's not that the cables you have to replace to change the master setting, it's a lil piece of plastic on a set of pins on the back of the harddrive/dvd drive whatever that you have to change, if you've had hard drive on slave all this time, when you put it on master you'll provably notice a performance increase.

Hey Guys If I Put Those Jumpers Then Will The Dvd Drive Work Ie The Hdd Become Master And Dvd Will Work Too

Only if you jumper the hard drive to become the master and jumper the dvd as the slave.

Its not difficult.. Looking from the back of the drives, you will see next to the ribbon connector (to the left usually) these pins

. . . .
. . . .
1234

From left to right,

1 is usually nothing (why they include the pins I dunno)
2 is Cable Select
3 is Slave
4 is Master

So your DVD rom is probably set on both pins at the far right, so move it to the left 1 to set to slave.

Hopefully your HD is the same pin configuration, if not look on the top of the drive there will be a guide showing you how to set to master.

Oh yeah, or you could set both to master.

Have the HD on the primary channel
and the DVD on the secondary channel.

HD's and Optical Drives, cause poor performance issues when sharing the same ribbon.

Invest in another ribbon (if you have the motherboard box there maybe one in there) and keep them seperate you will notice a huge performance boost.

Well jumpers are needed to let the motherboard know whats master and slave.. as you can have to masters or slaves on the one ribbon
