It seems as though the EU version of this game has all the gore cut out... there's still blood, but no flying heads :(

I was just wondering if anyone had found a solution to this, or if anyone could help me figure one out.

I'm thinking simply changing the game region might do it. The following appears at the start of POPData.bf:

[General]
Language = English
Region = EMEA

and the value of the registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubisoft\Prince of Persia The Two Thrones\1.00.999\Product Release

is set to "Retail EMEA"

Changing EMEA to US might solve this (though if someone with the US version could let me know what your region's called, that'd be great). The problem is that I can't edit POPData.bf...
It seems the game won't start if the "Date Modified" is changed - open it, save it, close it, and PoP won't run.

If anyone can help, or has any other ideas, let me know.

EDIT: I don't think "Date Modified" is the problem... I changed the timestamp back to that of the original, and it still doesn't work...
If anyone can suggest what else might have changed by simply opening and saving, I'd love to hear it.

if you want to change it you should not open it with notepad but with a good hex editor :)

Thanks, just got the same advice from someone else :)

I was WAY off with all that timestamp stuff...

I'm getting the feeling that I'm looking in the wrong place though... I think that POPDat.bf is mainly concerned with menu text.

And the registry entry doesn't seem to affect anything. I'm stumped...

The game may be checking the integrity of its BF (Big File?) archives, with some checksum. Search around on the Net; perhaps, there are already archivers that can create and extract such BF files.

Thanks for the advice, but we got it figured out. The problem, at least, not the solution just yet...

The problem's the exe - the dismemberment switch is hardcoded in there somewhere. The US exe is, in theory, all we need. But...
The US exe needs the US Starforce version.
The US Starforce needs a US CD. (Unless you wanna crack it for me? :D)
And if you're using a US CD, you need a US CD key (which I know better than to look for around here ;))

I managed to get a hold of the US exe, and I'm waiting on the Starforce files. So if a working mini-image ever gets released, we might be in business!
