Just surfing the web today and found a release at megagames...I haven't downloaded it yet or tried it so I'm not sure if it's legit. Megagames sometimes refers to their No-CDs as Backup CDs.
Hopefully it works...

Of course you would have downloaded it first before posting, haven't you.
I sent the no-cd the other day to GCW. I dont know if it has been added yet or not.

Nocd as in EXE??
Yep
File in archive was speed.exe or something like that about 6.9mb
Bet its a fake or loader. We shall see. You can never know for sure ;)
Dont have the game to test it, just saw it and took it and sent it in straight away. So dunno, someone will tell us anyways lol
EDIT: Tried to open it up in a standard debugger to have a sneaky peak, it crashed it very quickly so high end wrapper involved. So could be a good one.
Can you check the entrypoint of the exe? See to which section it goes?
Was way ahead of you :P
EDIT: EP 05C7000h
Heh and? .text? If so, this has just sparked my interest :)
Bleh let me get procdump lol
BTW It seems to be still safedisc on it.
With CDcheck
And not sure on this one a CDkey check. Dunno if the original had the same or not, if not it could be a naughty one.
Well I dont have the original exe either, but since this is 6 megs and that is such a low EP I can only deduce that it is in .text, which means a fully unpacked exe. Which is ****ing good because that means someone has cracked SDAPI. Can you PM me the exe? I would like to disasm it a bit ;). You dont have to ;)
it aint a exe its a maxi image lol, didnt anyone even check it before making a thread lol.
The one I sent is an exe, I do know the difference between an image and a win32 executable :P
Woops I thought the EP you posted was with imagesbase lol. EP is in safedisc section. This smells like a fake, just like the one that Empire removed :(. It also has the same group tag...
Was dated the other day, oh well worth a chance anyways :P
100% fake. Thats that. Just looked at it.
Too bad :(
arghhhhhhh (in a somerset accent) lol
i crapped my pants with exitment when i noticed this thread :P (<< not litrally) (but pretty darn close)
ooo well
Looks like we have to wait a little for cracked nocd / no mounted CD exe for a while :(

There is another one, if anyone's interested:
NFS_MOST_WANTED_SAFEDISK_CRACK_BY_CRiMiNALS.rar
http://www.mytempdir.com/273656
I've sent this to gcw yesterday. It includes a speed.exe, same size as the exe of version 1.2. Some bytes are different, but it seems that Safedisc is not removed :(
Anyway, have a look at it, it's better than nothing

This was already @ gcw but was removed because it was not working.
look, just ****ing try it b4 posting.
Anything with crim or criminals in the file name is a fake.
Here this is from my other posting:
"I grabbed that nodvd out other day here ( http://m2010.gamecopyworld.com/download.php?d=2005&f=NFSMW-MINI!rar ), its like 858+KB but extracts to 1.74gig (we know its not really this size but all filled with 0's but windows sees it as this size so takes it out your HDD space), anyhow do as that peep told me and compress it using the windows compression option and REBOOT PC, then its back to tiny file, mount in daemon tools V4 and play game (i dont need to hide daemon now, not sure if you will)"
"BTW i have legit 4CDR version from 17th Nov"
So basically you will then have tiny file of 1.23MB (ondisk size) on your HDD (only once you compress and reboot), and if your lucky like me you may not need hide daemon V4 anymore. :D

Errr, why would you need to reboot?!
You really need me to tell you why you need reboot PC after compressing the .mdf ?, I will give you a hint (1) look at your HDD space left before you extract the rar, (2) then look at HDD space after you extract the rar, (3) then look at HDD space after you compress the .mdf, (4) then finally look at HDD space after you reboot PC, come back and tell me what doesnt change from stage 2 till after stage 4.
P.S I would simply have replied with the answer to your question, if i didnt detect a slight smartass attitude, you werent really asking for real IMO.

Uhm, is this the problem with putting maxi images onto the (NTFS-formatted) Windows system partition and then using Windows compression on them? For a test, I put a maxi image onto an NTFS-formatted partition other than the Windows system partition, on my work PC at my work place, compressed it and I won back the size of the maxi image (minus the 1 Megabyte size of the Windows-compressed maxi image) instantly. (See my test results in this thread: http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=73889 ) I cannot try maxi images on my Windows system partition as it has only half a Gigabyte of free space left...
[Edit] As for the smartass attitude, sorry about that! 1) I thought you were simply fooled by that guide you quoted and didn't check whether or not all steps are necessary and 2) I'm listening to discussions so that I can add confirmed tricks to the forum FAQ.
NP's , I looked at partiton and it was bang on 20.3gig, i lost over 1.5gig with that file unrared even after compressing, it wasnt till i was able to reboot PC 5 hours later (was busy) i got the space back as the person told me i would in here.
All on XP Pro SP2 NTFS obv :)
I have the image on my main partition as 1.25mb compressed.
I wonder, why is that big problem to make the No-Cd patch, because mounting countless of images is becomming quite irritating for me... :(
Why a big problem?
I could tell you why, but no fun in that lets do the practical approach.
Heres how to find out why..
1. Spend alot of time learning ASM, API's, everything about file including headers, etc
2. Now open up your game, try cracking it.
3. Ouch didnt work did it :P
Well, maybe it check itself over the internet for the right md5 checksum of the main exe? Then blocking the traffic make it work.
Or something like it...
Certainly there has to be a way. The number of mounted devices for "no CD patches" certainly exceed the 4-ones that Deamon Tools can mount... :(
No, the problem for making a NOCD for this game is a tedious protection feature... But I am surprised that no one has cracked it yet. O well.
