View Full Version : Civ IV Launch error

After making an image of my store-bought DVD I mounted it with the latest Alcohol. I used SD4hide to hide the alcohol program. However, when I launch Civ IV - the pre-game launch screen pops up and disappears followed by a windows error
AppName: civilization4.exe Appver: 0.21.0.1674 ModName: ~db394b.tmp ModVer 0.0.0.0 Offset 00084c9c .
When I turn off SD4hide, the game launches fine but then asks for my original DVD (and I cannot since my DVD drive is kaputt).
So the game crashes if I use SD4hide and asks for DVD if I do not. I also tried using Daemon tools but no luck.
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.
Sorry for bad englisch, it is not my native tongue.
UPDATE: Resolved
I had to insert the MDS instead of the MDF file. :)

I'm know of the insert correct CD error, but not of that error. I would suggest SD4 Hider, but that dosn't seem to be the problem. Maby it's a problem with your image. Try the one off of GCW with SD4 hider.

Just tried that - the result is the same. Replaced my DVD image with the mini image from GCW. Turned on S4Hider. Launch Civ IV and I receive the same error. Without S4Hider the game asks for DVD.
Help? :(

Try the dreaded, (USE AT OWN RISK) anti-blaxx. If that don't work I don't know what to tell you. I'm using SD4 hider with the mini image and it works fine.

Just tried Anti-Blaxx the result is the same as SD4Hide. Launcher shows up for one second and crashes. Above-mentioned occurs occurs. (I selected Safedisk as the Emulation). Any suggestions? help :(

You don't need to select any emulation options, in fact, selecting an emulation option can make something to not work more than if you did. I doubt that deselecting it would make it work, but I'm fresh out of ideas. Did you try throwing your computer out the window out of fustration yet?

@leidernicht
and I cannot since my DVD drive is kaputt
How did you create the your image?
Instead of rushing out to buy your next game, buy a new DVD reader/recorder instead! It will probably cost less than the game. ;)

My roommate's computer has a DVD burner but it is five years old and is unable to play the game. That is how I have the image but no DVD drive :P. Any other ideas? Perhaps you got another way to get the thing working?

I assume that, when you bought the game, you read the minimum system requirements which included a DVD-ROM.
