Which crack are you using? Do you get the same error when you use your original cd/dvd without crack? Do you have a original cd/dvd?

its because either

a) your using windows blinds or any other stardock programs
b) your using style xp
c) your using windows 2000/nt compatability

aslong as you are not doing any of those things the game will work perfect.

if you are using any of the above, the best you will get is the game starting, and as you change area it will crash,or it will just crash immediatly when the screen goes black at the beggining.

i use windowblinds and have no problems ... Besides, this is not a TECH Suport forum, contact the publishers!

when i used windows blinds it would crash every time i changed area,it is massivly common.

when i had this issue i looked on google and i found thousands of people asking about these crashs and they said it is all down to themes/skins

and i removed the skinning software, and i crashed nomore.

if you set the game to 2000/nt compatability the game will play, but will randomly crash.

Ive had a look around and basically it will work with some skins, with others it would work but with dodgy effects and others it will simply crash, i guess with the skin i use it works fine (crystal).

as in crystal xp? the vista skin?

if it is,that skin completley replaces the xp bars rather than masking them like windows blinds does.

and its the masking that causes the problem.

i had that vista skin,it was really good, didnt mess nothing up.

i know with the k-tek skin and some other popular ones they stop half life 2 from starting also.

I guess it has something to do with DirectX/Direct3D. Try reinstalling DirectX 9.0c (if you dont have WinXP SP2), this could help...

That's it!
d3d9.dll is the directX main library so it' a DirectX error!
