View Full Version : Warning Popup :)
I love it :) now there is no excuse for them :P
Hope it helps as some of the moderators (including me) got sick of removing "crap" ;)
I sure hope it works EMPiRE, but we all know some people will just click past it without reading it or try to block it DAB!
Definitely no excuses now though for ignoring it, better late than never :D
I think it's rather hard not to read it
Its definately a step in the right direction. :)
Lets invent a mobile wrist teleporter..
Whenever someone logs onto site, GLH teleports there and in his best german
"Readzis the Sign, Swine"
Will scare the **** out of them, but it will work wonders lol
There are occasions when the pop-up takes longer to appear than me clicking the section I want, so I miss it completely and it never appears in the section I clicked, so I totally miss it.
Maybe it needs to be made into the main page also? Instead of http://fileforums.com showing you the Forum menu, make it show the popup message instead so you HAVE to click continue and therefore MUST see what the message says before going onto the forum menus.

Honestly, it sucks.
I have to click on that crap every time i visit FileForums ?!
It may be good for warez nappels but it just makes me angry to hit the Continue button every time i visit here...
Cant that be written into a cookie if i already hit the Continue button and its done ?

If it was a cookie, people will just ignore it. The fact that it doesn't only appear once is why it is so great. It only appears on the forum index and doesn't open a new browser window. I don't see why it would make you so angry, one additional click.

Any chance that you could make this go away after a certain number of posts/time. Something along the lines of, you've been a member for over a month AND you've made over 20 posts, no more pop-up? The site is great and I come here often (even if I don't post that much) and I understand the issue with noobs and the whole warez issue, but that popup is so damn annoying.
Ive seen older members bringing up warez issues before. So its not only the noobs who do it.
tell me about it, first post i did GLH called me a warez kiddie! :D

I didn't even know what you people where talking about for over a week. I didn't get the popup because I always clicked on something before it came up. I thought it was an inside joke or that I was just too stupid to get it.

dialup?
Seeing as most people arent still reading it, why not setup a system where when you click the ad the account gets a value of some kind that way each time they come to the forum it checks for that.
If they didnt click it, it will show up on every page until they do, thus if someone missed it and is going to ask about warez questions it will show up on a reply or a new topic page also where they will have to read it since they want to type something.

it might make more sense to keep it focused until they did click it, and disable navigation until it was.
However, I think these suggestions are still pretty drastic.
if any of you have a java script to do this then let me know!
The current layer only becomes active when the whole page is loaded... not sure if this can be changed somehow

Well, I searched the net and managed to find a way to overwrite the web-browser's "alert" box.
I am unsure how it will work on linux and mac's. Can anyone here want to see?
http://www.geocities.com/sagefankia/index.html
The button on the page pops up the alert window.
The style is loaded with css and the popup is initiated and handled with java functions. View the source to see what it is like.
The original code page is here, along with their example:
http://slayeroffice.com/code/custom_alert/
The fifth or so paragraph down states how it stops user interaction while the window is open.

Wouldn't it be better if it would be an extra step to go through when your either posting a new thread or post? Instead of it popping up all the time?
It doesn't pop up all the time, I get it ONCE when I come here and it never appears again until I browse away and come back.
As for making it pop up when you reply or post a new topic, now that would piss people off!

It pops up for me about every day. As for making things even clearer to people, no, we won't: we expect from our visitors a certain level of intelligence which includes knowing that all public forums have rules and those not following them will be punished (or expelled).
