hey lately my ps2 doesnt direct boot anymore. i have to go to the browser screen and wait about 2 mins for the disc to load then i click it and it loads. my laser is clean so is this a sign of what happens before DRE?

sounds like the laser ! do you get a clicking sound when loading ??
and have you cleaned the laser from the inside of the console or just a cd lense cleaner ??

pots could need adjusting ! but will only prolong the laser for a while ! might be wrong ,,,,,,,,,,,
replace the laser ! what v is your ps2 ..........
Soon, you'll probably start getting Disc Read Errors :(
It's time to calibrate the laser, or just have it replaced (which you'll have to do soon anyway by the sounds of things :( )

oh gezz that sounds fun, i have a version 5. to calibrate the laser is that adjusting the screws it has??
Adjusting the pots can be tricky if youve never done it. check out this (http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/) . Look at the laser repair tutorial. Or you may want to send it to Spedmetal at www.norcalmods.com.

i read the tutorial and i tried the white click wheel, nothing changed...then i took it all apart and rotated the pots about 1/4 to the right (clockwise) and nothing changed still. do i have to rotate them more?

oh crap i think i turned it to much, now in the browser when the disc loads and i click on it...brings me right back to the browser screen
ok i went back and turned it back some and it still doesnt direct boot and only loads through the browser...i think im just going to live with it like this i dont wanna break it lol thanks for helping
ive got even bigger problems now. i went in to readjust it one more time and the black wire to my fan completely popped out. no idea if i can fix that, if not im screwed and dont know what to do, buy another ps2 for just parts? like the laser and fan
Well if you do buy another ps2 don't use it for parts, just use it as your new ps2, and sell your broken one on ebay. You should get around 20 or so for it, so that will cut down on the cost of an new one a little bit.
Or go to ebgames/funcoland they might trade your old PS2 plus like maybe 80.00 or so (I really don't know) for an used/working one.
I really don't know anything on ps2 lasers so that would be my best bet.
Christmas is coming around the corner :D

good news guys. the discs still load up and are playable, just that now my ps2 totally freezes and shuts itself down after a minute because of no fan lol. but i looked on ebay and this one guy sells like every part for every model. i bought a v5 fan and power block for $18. once i get it hopefully on wednesday everything will be good again. then if the laser does die, for $60 i can get a brand new one wich is what i'll end up doing instead of buying another ps2 and reinstalling the chip, for me that was hell.

Does spedmetal do repairs? I know he does mods(I myself sent my ps2 to him for a mod)but I don't see on his site that it says he does those kind of things? Maybe I missed it?
Edit: Nevermind, I just read the F.A.Q. section and he said he does, on a case to case basis.
here we are again..so
i made a copy of GT4 but....always a but with me...(so unlucky)
it boost...after it shows @2005 etc trademarks etc etc...goes black and freezes
i have a brand new ps2 slip with matrix v1.38...

oh another problem...sometimes my psw freezes when i use original disc and have connected 2 controlers....
and if that helps...i bought my ps and opened it so i am sure he put the right mod....after removeing all the screws(especialy the laser whole thing..ya know)maybe it's not right or something?

Yeah, my ps2 freezes sometimes, and is slow loading, and makes clicking noises(in which also makes the game freeze)quite a bit -- I think it's because of those dvd+r disc that I use -- even when I put in original games now, they will sometimes do the clicking thing. Think it's time to look for a repair -- wish I had gotten the dvd-r instead of the dvd+r, but live and learn. Now I can't even get dvd-r to really work, but it's weird because my dvd+r tends to work better -- I figure I need mainly a new laser, I mean maybe a cleaning, but it just skips and makes noises alot. The DVD-r doesn't even really read well at all -- anyways, I can feel your frustration haha(of course, maybe your problem isn't that bad, I wouldn't know)

Are you trying to load a game that you ripped to dvd+r or are you making a dvd+ DL backup??
i ripped Grand Turismo 4 to a DL+....wen i leave it 1 day off it plays but freezes for 2-3 mins...continues then to freeze

hey everyone i got my fan and hooked it up but i still have problems, i would load up a game through the browser and it would only bring me right back to the browser screen. so i twisted the dvd screw slightly to the right (under the laser) and now i get the ps2 logo but a solid black screen. do i need to just keep messin around untill it works? or is it something else
