Well it looks like it could be Starforce, as soon as you go to run the game after installation it wants to reboot same as Chaos Theory.
There should be a warning before wasting bandwidth downloading this BS.

They use protection on the demo files because in the past cracks have been made by looking the unprotected demo files.
Heck sometimes even the demo.exe could be used as it was the same as retail. And when it didn't were like retail crackers could get some hints about how it looked when unprotected.

Thats the way it is... :-\

Yes it does make it extremely risky downloading demos now! I wont download a demo now until I know what protection the full retail game has.
Or if I do download a demo, like I did with the Fear demo, I make sure I scan it first. And you can imagine my relief to find out it was Securom and not starforce. Unless the scan shows the actual protection I wont install the Demo. If the scan comes up with none or unknown protection then I presume this to be Starforce! I know it doesnt always mean it is Starforce but its safer to presume it is instead of installing the demo only to find out 'Unknown' was in fact a new version of Starforce!

I am with you 100% there!
I think the main reason for F.E.A.R not having starforce is that it would be such a great performance hit when playing.

Starforce is and will continue to be a major PiA... On the other hand I rarely bother with demos any longer. A few years ago demo's coming for all games, nowadays I rarely see them. Not that I look either anymore but still... I think the demo's have lost most of their glory.

Thing is, demos get shorter and shorter everyday, i remember the doom demo, a third of the game lamo!

If the game is as big as 100 hours gaming experience the demo can be up to 2-5 hours (SpellForce)...but if a game lasts 10 hours such as Serious Sam 2 or Total Overdose, a demo cant take 3 hours
Why spending 45 € on anything you can get a third of it for free

I downloaded King Kong demo from www.3dgamers.com (I think from there) and I had no problems.
