A NoCD means just that, so no emulation should be required and the back-up is only needed for installing.
What's the game and why can't he get the NoCD for himself? Just give him the link to G.C.W......unless!!!! Now I'm getting too suspicious.
I have just tried installing a no cd patch for Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe. I am off to Iraq soon, and in my spare time hope to play this awesome game, but I don't want to take my original disc as it may get scratched and ruined. Do I need a backup copy of the original disc to play the game, as I was under the illusion I wouldn't need a disk at all and it would play directly from the hard drive.
By the way, I should probably say hello to everyone, I hope to meet some interesting people on the forums, and yes, I am crap with computers!!!
So what are you going to play it on?
Assuming your taking a notebook, does this mean you won't be taking any disks?
What if you have a problem with windows and have to do a repair or God forbid a re-install?
By making a backup, you will be able to re-install it should you need to and still have the original safe.
The NoCD patch means just that, you won't need to have a CD in the drive to RUN the game.

German soldiers are going to Iraq ?????
They already sent some to Iraq a year ago ...but still today ?!
He could be an american or british soldier who have barracks in Germany.
He will have more to worry about in Iraq than wether or not his Disc gets scratched!! But all the same, 'Good Luck'. ;)
Indeed, I am British!!
Like I say, I'm not too clued up with these gizmos, I run anti virus and firewall, etc. but I won't be on the internet with it, and I will NOT be putting other discs from unreliable sources onto my laptop!! You can't trust some people these days!!! Hopefully I won't need to reinstall windows at all.
Coming back to the no cd patch thingy, I keep getting asked to put the cd in, but I made a backup disc, so I'll go with that. I want to do this with all of my games as I don't want them getting eaten by camels and what not!! Is this strictly legal as long as I own the original game?
@Spamel
Is this strictly legal as long as I own the original game?
Yes, as long as you own the original you are entitled to create one backup disc. ;)
Coming back to the no cd patch thingy, I keep getting asked to put the cd in
Have you downloaded the NoCD/Fixed 'exe' from GCW and replaced the original with it?
Rename or put the original 'exe' in a safe place, saves having to reinstall should any future updates checking originality of the 'exe'.
This one from GCW is for the 1.12 update.

Yup, tried that. I've made a copy of the original game, so I'll go with that. The patches from GCW seem to be working fine on the other games I've installed so maybe the H&D one is a bit dodgy.
