Hi, I would like to install resident evil on my win Xp pc but the game give me an smapls_ip_ebp_8 error in the kerner32.dll upon install (every .exe files).
I've try to emulate the win95 from winXp (in the compatibility tab from the properties menu) but no success. (It crash a few milliseconds farther)
Can someone help me to make that game work?
Thks

WinXp Sp2
3.0 ghz
Radeon 8500Le Catalyst 5.5 (Newer version make NWN crash randomly to often)
Sound Blaster 5.1
1 gig Ram (Kingston)
I've continue searching and I've been able to go further, I don't have the memory problem anymore but when I'm starting the game I got this new error:
"Failed to initialize the graphic hardware device (3)" Duh! I'm stuck here now
I've been able to bypass the memory error with the application compatibility software 3.0 and the compatibility wizard from WinXp Sp2

I've use Virtual Pc to setup a true win 95b Os but still it failed and give me the message "Failed to initialize the graphic hardware device (3)" as stated earlier on the Xp compatible Os.
Is it not so that Resident Evil requires Voodoo compatible graphics accelerator?
I think it does and that is one reason for not working in Virtual PC. But I think you can get it working if you have an ATi Graphics card, there is an emulator out there that will enable emulation of Voodoo Glide using ATi OpenGL drivers.
I can not remember where I found it but take a look at www.guru3d.com or something...

The problem was Virtual Pc. Under the host os it works fine.
Of course I needed to setup the application compatibility wizard to make work my Xp like a 95 for this game but it did.
Thks
Glad you got it working then... :)
As for Virtual PC I am very unsure if it really is suited for gaming due to predefined hardware setup that uses standard 3d with no real acceleration support and so on.
No matter you got it working, now go play instead of post here... :p

Well the funny part was that I uninstall it immediately after tchecking that the game was playable. I was trying to make it work for a friend. She will be very happy :)
For VPC, the only game I wanted it to work with was Moo II (Master of Orion) and it did flawlessly! Of course Moo II isn't a 3d game.
I think its more a sound issue. Get VDM i think it is, it emulates old sound blaster cards.
I dont have a url at hand, but im sure its on sourceforge.net
Or use VMWare as it is a great app, supports deep customization by editing the .vmx file... :D
On the other hand sourceforge projects are most often very good and free!
