Please scan the game files with ProtectionID and tell us what copy-protection is used!

Why do you assume that everything on isonews would be there?

That could mean 2 possibilities

1. It has a simple cd-check routine

2. It has a protection that PID doesnt know about.

I will plump for no 2.

Im sure Joe will jump at the chance to try out no 1 though. lol

...

Hi Dude

What's the deal if it has that "simple cd-check routine" which is likely in my opinion since it's a game from 1998. what can I do then? I mean could you please tell me a way to remove that sort of "simple cd-check routine" thingie as Im completely new to this. nevertheless I do own the game, bought it legaly at the mall for so-called money :D and it still asks for CD under XP :( it's a bug that makes it completely unusable with XP, so i would appreatiate ANY advice or know-how concerning the solution of this nightmare.

cheers
thanks in advance

I've put online the EXE only at http://sta.c64.org/shared/MGPRS2.RAR . Anyone can point me to a software that finds out what EXE compressor/encrpytor has been used on it and/or a software that can unpack it? I've never been very successful with unpacking EXE's manually, even in the DOS era... :o

I would recommend Quick Unpack - handles UPX, ASPack, PE Diminisher, PECompact, PE-PACK, PackMan, WinUPack and more

a load of other specific unpackers can be found here:

EDIT: FileDETECT detects a linker inside the EXE as Watcom WLink

Thanks but, it seems, none of those support the encryption utilized on this EXE... :(
