I was in PC world today, contemplating whether to buy this or not, as I enjoyed the previous 2 games. On the back of the box it says 'Internet activation required OR (UK ONLY) activate by phone'. I must say this put me off buying it, as I don't much fancy trusted computing, which Half Life 2 was, and the reason I didn't buy that game. Has anyone bought the UK version of this game? If so, I would be greatful on your activation feedback. Thanks.
if you do buy it, dont from pcworld, it is so much expensive that other places, try game or gamestation (latter one always has deals on new games), and if u want it even cheaper, play.com
Also the german version has this online activation.
But you have to activae it only once after installation/re-installation.
The game doesn't have a real copy protection, so you can play the game without dvd.
The first update patch was/is available in two versions SILVER and GOLD.
(GOLD = Silver + additional MultiPlayer-Maps = only for registered users.)
I bought it, when it was released in germany, played it a while. It's quite heavy to solve the levels. And also the levels are that huge.... first level took me 4 hours of playing.

Presumably, even if you phone, the code you are given depends on your hardware configuration, so you will need to call again if you change your hardware. I don't like having to rely on a 3rd party to get things working. I'd even rather they'd have used Starforce on it!

Also, if there is no CD protection, then what is the Mini-Image on GCW for?
Good Question, maybe someone with the game can shed light if it has a protection or not :)

Nope. Game comes only with online activation. Even in november in the us published by Midway.
Also, if there is no CD protection, then what is the Mini-Image on GCW for?I already told it to EMPiRE. Don't know if he want to removed the E2160 mini image.
