If i remember correctly, you need an external USB-DVDdrive.

oh oh oh dude
1. bumping your posts is NOT allowed (have a look at the rulez !!!)
2. Splinter Cell 3 can be played without original DVD if you have
- a working mini image
- a USB2 DVD drive
- unplugged your IDE / ATA drives

sorry for the bump.

I got the mini image from gamecopyworld.com

I also know how to disable the drives.

What is a usb 2.0 drive and how do i know if i have one?

EDIT- also when you say unplug can i use starforce nightmare for the drives?

EDIT2- what program should i use thats free that i can use to burn the image to a dvd?

It is an external drive connected with your PC via USB 2.0 ;)
I think you should know if you have a USB 2.0 drive or a "normal" internal IDE drive ....
-> if there is a cable leading from your USB2 device to a strange box which can read DVDs you have a USB2 drive ! :D

also when you say unplug can i use starforce nightmare for the drives?
I think this will not work ! You have to unplug the power cable of you drives (not your hardrive !!!)...

what program should i use thats free that i can use to burn the image to a dvd?
If it is an .mds/.mdf file you have to use Alcohol 120% and this is not for free ! I don't know freeware being able to burn Alcohol 120% images...

what if i have an internal drive?

how do i unplug drives that are inside my computer?

Muji-FightR
12-08-2005, 12:25
what if i have an internal drive?
You will unfortunately have to buy a USB 2 DVD drive if you want to play SC3 without DVD ! The alternative is buying a IDE to USB2 converter which is about 15 $/€...
how do i unplug drives that are inside my computer?
Open your comp, and pull the the power cable of the drive you want to unplug (normally the smaller one of the 2, the other one is IDE)!
But watch out what you're unplugging ! I would not suggest to pull off the power cable of the HD your OS is located on ;)

can anyone give me a set of steps to use if i want to play the game without the CD?

MasterYoda34

Currently, there is only one way to play the game from a backup, regardless of what anyone else says. And that is by inserting a copy made with Alcohol 120% into an External USB/DVD drive with RMPS emulation on. Currently, there is no other method. And chances are, StarForce will probably fix this method. Fortunatly, the next version of Daemon Tools (v4), will support StarForce.

The reason that External Drives work is because StarForce does not recognize them and therefore cannot use its own drivers. Which then allows RMPS Emulation to work.

There is no way to play without a DVD until Daemon Tools v4 comes out.

I think he could be talking about the warez version
Cant think of another reason why he would want to burn the image to dvd?

Oops, my apologies madkiller632 :(

Wrong,

Hes talking about the mini-image

XdaywalkerX
18-08-2005, 05:13
mini-image or not... if he have an original dvd he don't need a mini image or other useless stuff - think about - those guy must have a working dvd drive to install this game. whitout a installation a mini image is totally useless

if you have problems to start the game contact the developer of starforce - they will give you a rescue key to start the game without dvd - u can only use the key with the relevant hardware.

end of topic... senseless discussion - imho warez talk

GLH
18-08-2005, 08:49
...they will give you a rescue key to start the game without dvd - u can only use the key with the relevant hardware...It's not that easy to get a rescue key. I tried it. First you get hints about what you have to try. Only if this all don't work you get the key.

19-08-2005, 00:12
Hints??? i've the ultimate hint - insert dvd and start the game.... :D

GLH
19-08-2005, 00:33
And what if the game doesn't recognize your original disc?

XdaywalkerX
19-08-2005, 07:04
hmmm... jeah - you're right... but when he tried all "hints" wich the developers of starfove gave him, he got a rescue key...

oh - i'm an idiot - he has wrote he will use the mini image - why this??? without an installation? - if he can install the game he can play too... you have got me wrong... or not???

sh** starforce... it's so complicated - may some "bugfixes" in vers. 4 *lol*

GLH
19-08-2005, 12:52
if he can install the game he can play tooMost of the games don't check for original cd/dvd at the installation step. First at starting to play it will check the disc... and sometimes it fails also with the original disc.

Sorry to bump this thread, but Play.com in the UK are selling this game for £9.99 delivered if anyone is interested. Not sure how long this price will hold but it's an absolute giveaway for those that don't want to pay £30+ for it.

I bet anyone willing to buy a card this expensive already has Far Cry and/or Chaos Theory. What they should bundle with this card is a $300 rebate! :D

the game is £9.99 in all the shops now..and we all know why. lack of sales.
who wants to buy a game you cannot back up?

its all very well people in this thread saying to the guy insert his original dvd,but the point of making a back up is that you dont insert the original dvd.

now worse case scenario..rover gets hungry and decides to much his disc....
toddler finds the disc and scraths the hell out of it..
disc just stops working for some reason (happend to 1 or 2 of mine)

that theory of inserting the original disc is pretty pointless.

the idea of the site is to give people the freedom of backing up there payed for belongings without teh need of insurance or ringing up companys for back ups etc.

so whats the point if you are gonna say that to everyone who posts a thread? they obviously know that or they wouldnt be asking would they.

I think we all know what to do now, don't buy a game when it's released and wait for the price to drop through lack of sales ;)

But has this game actually sold any better since the price drop? Maybe all the new kiddie cracking groups popping up lately couldn't afford to buy it at full price and so now we'll see lot's of badly cracked versions :p

surely if you own the actual disc...which for this i dont and i never will (starforce scum) that who ever owns it could get a ready cracked rip or something? or is that illegal as its been modified? or maybe even trying to make a rip of the game for personal use and rip out that star force [email protected] a idea.

before the hounds start...i meant i dont own this game in any shape of form.
no i havent got a legit copy or a warez copy or any copy.

That is crazy, speacially unplug things.

Why all StarForce games are normally cracked but SplinterCell don't? What is special here? I really don't know

Muji-FightR
10-09-2005, 11:30
Thats the only way to get it run (for now).
I think a real NoCD crack will take some more time
But its StarForce 3.5 which is really nasty to me, there are about >100 encrypted files for SplinterCell 3 ;)

//There are some SF3 games that arent cracked yet:
Trackmania sunrise
Codename Panzers 2
Bet on Soldier
...

Yeah, thats true, why unplugging all drives before each time you play ? Its much easier to just play with DVD
But if you want to save/protect your disc from scratches this is a recommendable way ;)

I have an 8 year old and an 11 year old boys who handle my original discs (and the backup discs) all the time and they have never scratched or damaged one! It just a matter of teaching them how to handle them correctly but most important of all, to put them back in their respective CD/DVD covers immediately after playing! ;)

Yeah, thats truly a thing you should teach your kids ;) BUT i dont have any...and probably not in the next 3-4 years so it is my thing to watch out for my cds not to get broken or screwed up (sometimes my girlfriend is guilty, too :p )
And i still know what I did to my fathers CDs :D Many, many CDs of my dad died because of me :(
