I'm curious if there is any way to allow me and my brother to play BF2 on our LAN with only one copy of the game. Is it absolutely necessary to purchase a second copy? Is there a simpler way of allowing us to play offline in a local game?

What you want to do is illegal. Read the software license which came with the game!!!
