Game info from Hoodlum NFO:

Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in

Los Santos, San Andreas... a city tearing itself apart with gang

trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do

their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers.

Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been

murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all

heading towards disaster.

On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him

for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the

entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control

of the streets.

Liberty City. Vice City. Now San Andreas, a new chapter in the

legendary series.

100% your Problem has nothing to do with the NoCD Crack...

Update your Drivers ...clean your System..........

What drivers do i update? Video card or what. I got the latest mobo drivers and direct x 9.0 c. (I should know this :) ) and I got latest sound also. Anyway i'll try nvidias latest drivers.....

It didn't work! Help........

I am out of ideas what to do. And the best part is that I overwrote the original exe with the crack and now I have to reinstall my game to play with cd.....

Grumpy

For those having problems with Hoodlums No-DVD crack, I dont know why you are having the problems as it appears to work fine for me!
But you 'can' create a working Backup of your original DVD!
'ILLUMINATOR23' has already posted how to make this working backup in another thread.
I followed his instructions and it worked fine for me!
This is what I did using a Pioneer 107D (with Nils 1.16 firmware hack) using the latest version of Alcohol 120%.

Open Alcohol 120, Go to 'Options' (to the left of the Alcohol screen) then 'General'.
In the 'Options' screen go to 'Data Type Setting'.
In this window choose 'Disc Type' as 'Securom *NEW (4.x/5.x)'
NOTE: Now for some reason when I go back to check these settings the Data Type is again on 'Audio'? When I re-checked the settings I again changed all the settings to what I have just mentioned above then left it!
Depending on your type of burner the read speed you choose may not make a difference as it depends on the burner as to what speed it will actually read at! The Pioneer will read at the 'Maximum' speed regardless of what I choose here!
'Tick' the checkbox for 'Data Position Measurement'. Then click 'OK'.
Dont worry about the Recording options for now.

Now choose 'Image Making Wizard' (at top left hand side of Alcohol Window).
Now with my Pioneer burner I cannot change any of the settings for a DVD! The speed is set at Maximum and I can not do anything to change it! So the read speed is not real important!
Choose 'Next'.
At the next screen choose the directory you want to save the file to.
Leaving it at the default will be ok.
Click 'Start'.
The Reading of the DVD will now start.

After the read has finished insert a blank DVD!
Then choose 'Image Burning Wizard'. (again at the left of the Alcohol Window.)
The Image you just created should be listed already, if not 'Browse' to the directory where you saved it and choose the image.
Choose 'Next'.
On this next screen choose a writing speed, I chose '4.0x (5540KB/Sec)'.
Tick the checkbox for 'Burn "RMPS" to recordable media'. Then click 'Start'

To play using the newly created Backup:
Open Alcohol and to the left of the screen choose 'Emulation'.
Now make sure you Tick the checkbox for 'RMPS (Recordable Media Physical Signature) Emulation'
Click 'Ok' and close Alcohol 120.
Insert your GTA-San Andreas Backup DVD, the Autorum Menu will start and you will be able to play!

Now hopefully this will help all those Noobies (as I have written this with plenty of Detail) and those who for some reason have troubles using a No-DVD crack!
Sure you will still have to use the DVD to play but a least its not your original DVD doing all the spinning in the Drive. ;)

10-06-2005, 09:24
Thanks, But that means I have to reinstall. Oh, and did I mention I don't have a dvd burner......

I am screwed completally unless deviance decides to make a no-cd. I think hoodlum didn't fully crack the game but just removed protection or something.

@ Grumpy, thanks anyways. If in a week there is no crack from another group, I might just buy a Nec 16x dual layer dvd / cd burner :) .

It's not "just you" who has the problem.

When I start the game, it crashes to reboot just when the intro begins.

I suspect my onboard AC 97 sound chip, since it gave me similar problems in GTA VC.

Unfortunately, S.A. doesn't let you configure the sound hardware (as VC did).

Still looking for a solution ...

P.S.: Yes, I bought the game.

Great. That's a very nice well-detailed post. I'm sure it will be a big help for lot's of people.

The only problem with using a backup DVD is that you are still shortening the life of your DVD-Drive.

I have a sneaking suspicion that people who are having problems with the crack are either not up to spec or their system is confabulated with too much mish-mash. I find that even if I'm very careful not to install too much junk I still like to do a clean install of Windows every few months. Save what I need to another hard drive, reformat my windows drive, install windows, make sure all drivers are up to date, turn off all unnecessary services (BlackViper.com is great for that), etc., etc. The added bonus of doing this is that it is a sure way to get rid of StarForce and other viruses.

Of course, this isn't for the faint of heart and I wouldn't do this unless you have read up and know what you are doing. Might I also suggest that once you get your Windows installation all set up the way you like it that you make a Ghost image so you don't have spend so much time tweaking after each clean install.

I solved the problem - at least for me.

The hoodlum crack on this site works (it's referenced by grumpy in a posting above).

I used an older one. Looking at the file date, I guess hoodlum released a new crack a few hours after they published the first, faulty one.

I whish they had version-numbered it, or at least mentioned something in the .nfo :(

hi,
i have a problem with the sound and wanted to know if there is someone with a similar one.
when i start the game, everything workd fine but when i start a "new game", there is no sound in the intro (where cj is getting caught). after the intro i have to ride the bike an the whole ingame sound works without problems, but when i get in the car and try to switch the radio channel, ther is no sound and also the user tracks didn't work.

can somebody tell me if you had the same problem or someone know why its not working?

thanks.

Thats a game bug. Gamespot said it happens. Reload/restart should fix it.

But this topic is mostly about the problems cracking the game.

Joe Forster/STA
10-06-2005, 10:40
dunham, while it is not necessarily related to GTA, I really recommend that you buy a sound card. Realtek's onboard AC'97 is not good for listening to music or to play games - actually, I have no idea what it really is good for! I'm sure you'll do much better with only a Sound Blaster PCI128 or Live!, if you don't have enough money for a better sound card.

leezer3
10-06-2005, 10:41
Just a thought from me, you both seem to be running relatively low-end integrated sound hardware. Try going into dxdiag and sticking your sound level whatsit :P down to basic or none, and see if this makes any difference. I have had to do this with a couple of games on the other PC (Lappy runs fine, & under minimum specs! :D )

-Leezer-

bjornmmcc
10-06-2005, 11:25
You can get a sound card for like $10 that's a thousand times better than onboard audio. Or you can splurge, and for the cost of a new game, get something that is really decent.

10-06-2005, 12:24
Joe, I just installed an Audigy from one of my older PCs - no more crashes.

It's not a hoodlum problem, but a Rockstar bug. They detect the AC97 as a SB EAX card. Happens with the original CD.

Anyway, the AC 97 worked fine with 95% of games. I'll keep the Audigy, though, for the remaining 5% :)

Thanks for the help!

Using the no dvd but can't get the radio stations to play. I recall that this was also a problem with the vice city no cd which was solved by copying one of the cab files from the cd to the vice city root directory. Anyone know how to solve this one?

dunham
10-06-2005, 13:42
Postal, if the game doesn't work with an Audigy 2, then I guess the soundcard isn't the reason. Before you get a new one, try setting the hardware acceleration to minimum (Run dxdiag, rider "sound").
If the game still crashes, it's unlikely that your Audigy is responsible.

postaldudeleo
10-06-2005, 14:20
The audigy 2 isn't in this comp. Its in my workstation comp which is nice and beefy for maya 6 rendering.

I think I now whats the problem:

As you may know HOODLUM is a WAREZ Release-Group. They are releasing complete games not only cracks. The crack you can find on GCW is just ripped out of the HOODLUM Release. But the HOODLUM Release is an US-Version so the crack is also for the US Version (which of course only supports English and Spanish).

I think those wo have problems with the crack have got the EU Version (with German, French, Italian, English, Spanish language support) or the german version (the same as the EU Version but cutted). So its not a broken crack. The crack is simply incompatible with your version.

leezer3
11-06-2005, 09:48

I'm using the english crack with the UK release of GTA San Andreas. If you look earlier in the thread, the problem has been shown to be with a specific soundcard.

No, Sir. Noobs like you should read the forum rules.
Now I know you read them. Here's the kicker.

People should buy the game if they KNOW what they're doing. If they don't know what they're doing they will make a post like yours and get banned.

Of course I might be wrong in assuming that you do know what you're doing and, by your logic, did not buy the game.

This is what you do to stop crashes.

go to the cracked exe and right click

then properties and then compatibility. Select windows 2k and click apply.

No more crashes! Thing though is that i can't save, no way to get it to save for some reason. When I try to save it tells me to check save game dir.

How do i remove the file path for inspire fix. I think that might be the Problem.

Not really the same problem, but I've been playing my European edition with the "all languages" version of the no-dvd exe posted on the website, and everytime I enter the game it changes the refresh rate of my monitor from 85 to 60, and when I leave the game it keeps it at 60, and I have to manually change it everytime I leave the game.

Anyone has this problem? Anyway to fix this?

Hi Probosk,

You can read about the - probable - reason for the crash in another forum, whose link has been added to some of these threads. (Do some search.)

As for my savegame dir patch, it has been created independently of this crash problem: I simply don't like games puking their config files and savegames into my user's home directory (which I don't want to bother with) so I redirect those files to the game installation directory instead, by hacking the game a little bit.

Hey not my problem your too dumb to figure it out!

Instead of being sarcastic to me, seing as I cant be here 24/7 and type out lines of text to help everyone. I tried to help you get it running from your backup.

Now you can set Anti-Blaxx to not run on startup if you bothered to change settings.

Also You cant run the game with both Alcohol and Daemon Virtual drives on at same time.

Disable alcohol if you want, keep daemon running. When you mount the backup image, enable the emulation on daemon and close the program and keep all emulation running when asked to do so.

Now load up anti-blaxx, tell it what protection you want to use and point to the game exe and give the setting a name, then run the game via anti-blaxx.

It should run.

It is that easy.

Again dont start bawling and shouting at me for trying to help you. Not my fault you cant understand how to work it. Is that what you people do all the time, someone recommends something you fire it on and you go mad cause you cant work it? Did you even sit and try to work it out? No?

If this is all too much, there is a no-dvd on the GCW.

he you think I'm sarcastic ? Do you really know what that word means...

Your last answer was sarcastic... I'm not a newbie. I'm in the party for 10 years now. I've already done all you said before (and before you said it in your last answer !) as I wrote in my last post and the fact is : it doesn't work. That's all. I know there's a no-DVD, but I don't like no-DVD. And I confirm that now, with demon and alcohol and anti-blaxx uninstalled, there is still a virtual dvd-reader and I can't remove it (and now that's my problem n°1 !).

Hmmm, I fail to see how Dabhand was sarcastic? Whereas your 'THANKS A LOT' comment was definately being sarcastic! The advice/help you were given was fair advice? It wasnt sarcasm?
Re-install which ever program created the virtual drive, then you should be able to remove it, then if you want you can uninstall the program again if you dont really want it.

Allready done, but it doesn't work. The virtual drive name is "Generic..." so I think it's the demon-tools one.

And you were right finally, last DABhand answer wasn't sarcastic, it was arrogant and insulting.

generic can also be alcohol, not surprising cos it and daemon tools are close, and you say when mounted in alcohol you got the 'wrong disk inserted' message and not the emulation detected msg?, i'd also suggest that you and dabhand stop the pissing contest as its really achieving nothing for either of you

No, alcohol virtual drive default name is AXV CD/DVD-ROM.
Anyway, I finally managed to remove it.
And yes, the error message is "wrong disc inserted", not "emulation detected".
(I'm using the french DVD version of GTA SA).

You reap what you sow.

I offered advice you took the anti-blaxx option, I didnt bend your arm backwards to install it.

Besides I have not had any problems installing and uninstalling anti-blaxx.

Therefore it must be something else.

You were sarcastic with your THANKS A LOT, which made me respond the way I did.

I've been reading through all the posts in this thread but couldn't find an answere to my question. If there is one it would be very kind of you to tell me where to look. thx.
I got the german version of Gta SA and I am using the Hoodlum crack for ALL.
It's been working completely fine for a week. (No problems at all) yesterday eve I played (mission where u gotta save sweet under the brigde and where u are then taken by Tenpenny and u gotta destroy some evidence and take photos of it. First time u can get out of Los Santos I think). I went to grove street and saved, quit the game n watched some dvd on my pc. Today I wanted to start the game as I do always and it simply doesn't start. It seems as if it's trying to (that little sandclock of Windows appears for a short time) but doesn't do nething more. I've been trying all day to fix it without any results. (reboot, reinstalling the crack, so on n so on) might this "Crash fix patch" additional to the crack work?
I got no Idea, thx if u can help me

I have a US version of GTA SA, used hoodlum crack and everything works great. I decided to install one of those adapter on my pc usb to use the ps2 controller. Well the game wouldn't start after that, I couldn't for the life of me figure out why, well after much hair pullings I just disconnect the usb ps2 controller and it started again....the problem can be reproduce everytime. I've read the board rules ( look at the 7th ) : No flaming or insulting other board members. I don't see "forbidden to be sarcastic" :D . Now when you say that "I'm too dumb" I think it's insulting, isn't it ? And I don't know what "fool" means exactly ( maybe because I'm too dumb ) but it sounds insulting too... I've read a lot of posts from you on this board, and what I saw is that you like when people get banned for breaking a rule so why don't you report this ?

And before I get banned ;) , I think there's a localization issue with the mini-image : it works with US version of GTA SA, not with the FRENCH one... as said before, I get a "wrong disc inserted" message, not an "emulation detected" message.

how do i extract the gta_sa.exe from within the .rar file?
down load the trial version of winrar from
http://www.rarlabs.com/rar/wrar342.exe

install winrar.

this will let you open the rar file just as you would a zip file. then just rename the original gta_sa.exe file in the installed folder to gta_sa.exebak. now drag the file out of the rar file and drop it into the installed folder.

no have fun playing.

Ok So I'm simply having the same issues as everyone else... My Original Game is no where to be found, we just moved and it got lost somewhere in the move. Fortunately I had copied all the files. So here is what I've done:

1. Installed the game
2. Mounted Crack image (.mir) from GCW to Virtual Drive using Alcohol 120
3. Replaced .exe file with GCW crack (I have tried all the .exe cracks that GCW has and none of them worked)
4. Did not work, uninstalled tried again
5. Repeat Step 4
6. Repeat Step 4

I did get lucky once when I used the all language .exe crack, I clicked the .exe and it looked like it was going to come up for 1 sec and then it dissappeared... So with the frustration I kept clicking it and for some reason the game came up! I was happy... I went to save the game after the first mission and the game crashed. I have no idea what to do so if you have any advice I would really appreciate it. I know it can work cause it always did with the disc. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE!!!!

Also I have be reading all the.nfo files and trying to follow there directions to the best of my ability, a few confused me (like the savegame fix), but I'm pretty sure I did everything right.

System Specs:
AMD Athlon 2800+ 64 bit processor
768 MB of RAM
ATI Radeon 2600 Pro 256 MB
Soundblaster Audio Card
160 GB of HDD Space
I have a DVD Burner but it will not burn anything for some reason...

Thanks again

Great Idea Grumpy. I didnt know you could do that. I'll do that from now on. So check it out. I went to teh properties of the .exe file and changed the windows format to Windows 2000 and it worked! BUT but but but... There is really no sound (voices) and after my first save my mouse would not move so I couldnt change the camera angle... any ideas?

Hey there, you guys must be getting real bored of whining noobs like me! Sorry.. but I have been having problems with SA (Aint that a suprise) and this is entirely down to the Nocd. Err.. I have the EU version I would guess from the readme languages.. and the fact i brought it in the EU (smart, huh?) But due to some unfortunate circumstances.. I now have a 4 year olds attempt at art on my GTA CD. As you can imagine, the disk does not work anymore, so I have tried the nocd option. Basically.. ive tried about.. 6 different ones, including the all languages one, and they all come up with the standard "GTA SA.exe has encountered an error and must now close" kinda vibe. The program does not even start.. I would be vaugly relieved if i even got a white screen or something. Please, I have these sodding nocd-cracks coming out my ass..

I have no DVD writer, so cant just make a fresh one. Is there some way prehaps i could use the virtual drive on Alcohol?

QckSilverDragon
23-07-2005, 17:57
you need an copy of the dvd. even if its just an image of it on ur computer. i havent been able to get the no-cd cracks to work unless you install from ur harddrive instead of the dvd. also the game can recognize if ur useing an imulator(virtual) drive. it wont let you use them. if u can get ahold of the dvd image then just instal from ur harddrive and then use the crack.

hope this helps in some way.

hi all,i was having the same crash to desktop problem as other people,i tryed a lot of things to fix it patches etc but in the end i sorted it out by simply doing the following(cant take credit fould it on sum forum)
a) Make sure that your windows log-in account has a password, the change that you have to make doesn't allow a blank password to be entered.

b) Second click "gta_san.exe" (usually in Program Files > Rockstar Games) > "Run As" > "The following user"

c) Select the user you have a passoword for, type in password, press OK.

d) Log out (if you dont the game runs really slow for some reason)

5. Log back in and play the game!!
the game now works fine for me so hopfully it might sort yours out.

I finally finished GTA SA, but after i did the last mission (in which you have to follow bloody awful Tempenny), the game just crashs to desktop and Windoze tells me that gta_sa.exe encountered a stupid error...
is this because of the hoodlum crack ? i dont want to do the whole stupid level again just to see if, especially since i already uninstalled it.

Had bought a copy of GTA SA recently. Loaded it onto laptop ok, but when I tried to run the game it came up with an error message saying "Original disk could not be found or authenticated", although it is in the drive! I thought it could be an error with the disk an exchanged it for another copy, but this has done exactly the same. Since then I have tried 2 No-Cd patches, I can get a bit further i.e. it loads the intro sequence but then when that has finished it just goes back to the desktop.

Any suggestions?

Is your GFX card compatable with the game? Check what chipset your GFX card uses in your laptop then see if the game suports it.

how would the chipset of his gfx card possibly matter when the message he gets is from the protection? (sounds like securom...)

nathan_p
11-03-2007, 11:45
What's securom?

Laptop spec is 3.06ghz Pentium 4 processor, 512mb ram, 64mb graphics card(not sure how you find out all details). This should meet minimum requirements

Joe Forster/STA
11-03-2007, 12:06
SecuROM is a copy protection system. Laptops - mostly because of their inferior integrated graphics cards - are not suitable for many games.

nathan_p
12-03-2007, 11:35
Not wanting to sound (too) thick, does that mean that the game isn't going to work on my laptop? Or is there a work around?

Joe Forster/STA
12-03-2007, 11:43
Yes, it means the game will probably not work. It always helps to read the (minimum) system requirements (prior to buying the game). Also, you can contact the publisher for help. No, there is no workaround: if the game's engine uses some special feature that your video card does not have, you cannot make the game work on that PC in any way...

I cant load the game at all,
i eventually did one day and i thought it was going to work, until i tried to click on Options and it didnt work, theres something wrong with the Mouse Settings because my mouse works normal on other programs, but doesnt in the actual GTA SA game.

I can select things with the Enter key, my cursor still moves around and everything but i cant select anything by clicking.

as i said,
my cursor works normally on all other programs that i have.

Please help, ive tried all cracks and saved the original so i dont lose it.
I load the game and it brings me straight back to desktop.

Sounds like a system issue. Perhaps graphics requirement or chipset incompatibility. Or maybe even a major spyware infection or virus. Certainly doesn't sound like the issue lies with the fix to me.
