OK, don't flame me, I know the game isn't released for another week. I was reading the Nforce Forums, and it looks as though this game may need product activation. They also seem to think it uses Starforce (At least the German version). I would find this very surprising, seeing as the game is a Ubisoft title. Does anyone know anything regarding these 2 issues?

When i read the thread on the nforce forum, i come to the conclusion, SILENT HUNTER III will be protected with Securom or Safedisc.

That's what I thought. I can't see this activation thing being true either. Ubisoft have never used it before. If it is true, then it's probably just a required keycode, and not a software Trust system, as they take a lot of work to set up.

I watched the trailers. It's a very nice game. I think i will buy it, but i want to play a demo before. I hope there will be a demo available soon.
Release date is 15th March 2005 (US) / 18th March 2005 (EUROPE).

It does look like the Retail is Starforce3 (At least German). If that goes for the UK version as well, then count me out. Does this mean that Splinter Cell-Chaos Theory will also use Starforce3. I mean I can understand developers wanting to protect their games, but SF is a real git. If it gets on my machine, I can no longer capture Video without stuttering. I even installed a demo the other day, not realising it was SF. I do have an Image file, which I update with Acronis, but it's still something that shouldn't be happening.

The German retail release on DVD has definitely Starforce 3.7

US version is Starforce.
StarForce detected -> MissionEngine.dll
StarForce 3.4.71.19 detected -> sh3.dll
StarForce detected -> sh3.exe

@ GLH

The demo will be soon avaliable on fileplanet except only for subscribers, then, a few days later (i think it was a week) it will be publicly released.

This is just what a mate told me (he works there), except i dunno when exactly :S

It seems that the same Starforceversion like SH3 is cracked!

It seems SILENT HUNTER III is released to early. The consumer will be misused as beta tester. There is already a bugfix patch 1.1 released.

any one find a crack for this game yet

How it comes it is available as Direct2Drive via fileplanet.com ?

What kind of protection they use on the main exe and all the dll stuff ?

GLH

@Warlord711: Read post #6 & #7 of this thread. It's protected with Starforce.

@gav_69: Read the board rules. Particulary rule #6!

I don't keep up with the no-cd scene all that much. Last time I played a couple games that employed Starforce protection, they were considered uncrackable.

Is this still the case with Starforce protection? I'm in no rush to get a no-cd patch for this game, but I was just wondering because I wanted to know if it was even worth waiting for a no-cd patch for this game or not. Is Starforce still "uncrackable"?

GLH

Starforce isn't and was never uncrackable.
But it takes some time!

@GLH
I think what 'Warlord711' was saying is the game is available as Direct-2-Drive download from fileplanet. If it is available to download then it can not possibly be protected with starforce like the retail shop bought version? So he was asking what protection does the Direct-2-Drive version have? This indeed is very interesting. ;)

Starforce isn't and was never uncrackable.

Well, "uncrackable" was probably the wrong word. But so far I've played three games that used Starforce. Two of them I don't believe ever got cracks, and the third did get a crack, but it didn't work for like 70% of everyone that tried it.

So if a typical game takes maybe a week or two for a no-cd to be produced, what would you say is the typical time to create a no-cd for a Starforce game?

Oh, and do you know what it is about Starforce that makes it such a tough nut to crack? It it just because it's a newer form of protection that crackers are still learning to deal with, or is it just really, really good(if not annoying) at what it does?

GLH

So far i know, StarForce checks for the original cd not only to start the game. Also later in the game. So the crackers has to play through the complete game to check if all Protection-Checks are removed.

Grumpy hit the nail :)

I am no fileplanet subscriber, so i never downloaded a Direct-2-Drive Game and i dont know how what kind of Image and protection system you get. But it cant be Starforce 3.

After all i know, Starforce is used to check if the CD, or DVD, is a original one, and the Key supplied with the CD is only for THIS CD and dont work even with another CD of same game. So there must be some kind of watermark on the CD which is impossible to clone.

My Version of SH III is the German Release on a DVD-ROM, its using Starforce Protection, thats what ProtectionID told me.

Read the software license came with the game. One game only for one PC. If you want it on two PCs, you have to buy it twice.

You're banned!
