View Full Version : How can you tell difference between an original ps2 game and a pirated game?

Hello I recently bought some games off ebay. They are all supposed to be pal games but some are marked ntsc. So some may be ntsc-japan. How can I tell if these are originals or if they are some pirated crap out of hong kong, china ect? :D

Does it say NTSC U/C (united states and canada) ir NTSC J (Japan)

if they are burn they will have purple bottoms

I have never seen a HK silver so i dont know how to tell by looking at it but you can put it in an unmodded PS2 and see if it loads or not

Some of the discs say pal and some say ntsc. On one it says pal on the outer case and ntsc on the inside. Some are gold on the bottom others are silver. No purple on the bottom at ALL. They do NOT have ps2 logo on the inner plastic part os disc. They have on the inner ring of the disc the name of the game printed in English. The discs have the pics on the label side are NOT printed off a computer but look like they are original. One of the legal disclaimers in small print has a spelling error. I think these were made in china or out of hong kong. They look VERY real. But when I see chinese/japanese printing anywhere I am suspicious.

The gold bottomed discs are known as WORM (Write Once Read Many) DVD Discs - and are commonly used for piracy methods in HK

Those are HK-Silvers. In other words, they are pirate copies from real presses in Hong Kong.

do they play in unmodded systems? cause u think he would have alot of neg feedback if they sold them as origianls

They may play in unmodded systems of the same region.

It's like HDLoader pressed. You can also read them on unmodded systems.

Yes but in USA almost nobody has a ntsc-j formatted deck. I believe the ebayer I bought from honestly didn't know what they were or how to get them to play.

I Know!

It should have a little hologram on the dvd case saying liceneced sony product. Also you should be able to see the lil ps logo on the discs.
