hi,

i made a few backups today of some new games i got...when i tried to install from the back ups, none of them worked...same problem with every game...during installation i get an error message which says that some file on e:/
canīt be read and that i should check if it excist or if i have permission to access is...whatīs going on there??

then i tried to install from my dvd-drive---> same problem there :(

is my burner damaged?? well, i got it for quite a long time, but i nerver had probs, this is the first time. itīs a ASUS CRW 5224A...

when i insert the original disc, it installs without problems...so i guess it canīt be damaged then, right?

so what could be the problem if the cd writer is ok??

thanks for any help

Hmmm new games you say! Could it be the protection? Which games are they?

hi,

Republic Commando and Knights of the old Republic 2...burnt as usual with alcohol- securom 4/5 profile...that always worked, like everything else always worked and now this **** is going on...messed up 10 cds already...i really donīt know whatīs that about!

i can also install from the image i created, so the writer doesnīt seem to be responsible...only when i burn to cd and try to install from it, it doesnīt work..

I cant help you with Republic Commando but Knights of the old Republic 2 I have backed up with no problems! The only difference tho is I never use Alcohol 120% for Securom games! I use CloneCD for all securom games and choose 'Protected Game CD' as the Datatype. I have never had a problem with Securom doing it this way. However I use Alcohol 120 for all other protected games.
Could it maybe be a bad batch of blank Discs? I have seen some people use a particular brand without problems but then sometimes they get a bad batch? Just a thought? ;)

Edit: I can tell you Knights of the old Republic 2 uses the latest Securom protection! (5.03.13)

well after buying a new batch of cds the problem resisted, even with lowest write speed...so i guess the thing is messed up, because no matter what i did, it always came out a bad cd...

so i went out yesterday and got myself a dvd burner, which was time for it anyway. :p

but thanks for your replies grumpy;-)
