View Full Version : I have a V4/5 PS2...I need advice....please ??
OK, just bought it off my friend for £10, as it gives DRE's on PS2 games, or so I'm told.
Its scph30003R - mod-chip.comsays its a V5, but i dont have the screw, and i have an electric shock worning underneath, so that points it towards V4....you see?
If I get the DRE's that means I'm going to have to mess with the laser to try and fix it in the FIRST place, right?
would it be sensible to fix it so it plays PS2 original presses, before modding it ??
I'm thinking DMS3+ or DMS4. what do you guys think ???? :D :D :D
ohhh, just thought you guys should know that i have a V7 PS2 in pieces under my bed (I'm in the process of modding it, but Im really lazy and havnt finished yet, im doing it trial and error, i seem to have tiny solder bridges on the bios chip but I'm slowly working through them all). If need be, I can always yoink my V7 laser out and put it in my V4/V5.
i really dont want to have to do that unless i REALLY have to....ok that sounded stupid but i think you guy's will know what i mean....

whaddya think ????
How much fiddling with the V4/V5 laser will be required ?
does SCPH30003"R" mean that it is a slightly newer V4 PS2 ??
also, how on EARTH do you solder to the copper pads on the right side of the BIOS chip ?? those things are hell to solder onto. (im a noob, well ive soldered alot before but not on this small a scale)
have you gotta scrape the stuff off the top or something ?? there doesnt seem to be anything there....
also, do i actually NEED a fibreglass pen and a flux pen ??
Not sure about the PAL consoles but some 30001R NTSC consoles are v4. As far as the modchip goes i would get a DUO2se if all you want is to load backups. If you must have all the extras then get a Matrix infinity or a Crystal chip. Personally i would stay away from the DMS chips.

are DMS bad or something ?? i have a homebrew infinity, but im having sever trouble getting it to work on my other PS2 (V7) im an allright solderer, its just that it seems FRICKING PERFECT, but it still wont show any signs of existence.
i just dont know what to do with it, I'm depressed that my PS2 might not work anymore... (im using a 25watt iron and im afraid i may have damaged the bios chip) well....i dont see how i could have, seeing as how i was very careful, and i even tested an old 555 astable cicruit chip with the iron while it was blinking for a whole 2 minutes and the chip didnt burn out.....
i just need help bad. i made the wires short as possible, none are touching, i went through all the places i could have bridged solder with a small pin and magnifying glass etc....i even went through everything with a multimeter checking for connections.....i just dont know whats left to do....
EDIT:
btw, what do you mean by "all the extras" ?? i might want to watch Region free DVD on the PS2.....i also will need to play PS1 backups on it....hmmm i dont think theres much else. i need good compatibility with Recordable media, and something that isnt going to mess the laser up fast.......
dunno if that helps....
edit2:
also, i need a good UK site that wont screw with me for my modchip.
i got a M:I homebrew from mrmodchips.com and they were great.
how about Matrix MXL4 ?? its £25 here is that expensive? how much would a duo2 se cost? cheaper ? im low on cash so cheaper, but still good quality, the better.
i need sleep mode and non necessary lens signals features and all the usual stuff, and of course multidisk games and autoboot for everything etc.
is this forums dead or what??
know any more active forums? ? i might copy htis over to PS2 ownz actually....
lol. :p

@oZER0o
Have you read through the Ultimate Info Sticky? Have you done any searches in any of the questions youve asked? Plenty of info here.
Tyler!
[QUOTE=oZER0o]are DMS bad or something ??
Go over to the DMS forum and have a look.
@ Jay_83 - I wasn't referring to you, lol. :)
I was taking the p*ss out of those at Ownz who love the flip tops...

And the relevance to this thread was??
@ jAY_83, Lufcfan was referring to the 4th post by oZER0o. Did you not fully read it? I dont see where he said anything that referred to you or that should have offended you.
ok, i'll read the ultimate thread....
anyone know good UK stores that sell modchips online ?? for good prices of course, and reliable....
Go with an OS mod store like www.foundmy.com. They are the cheapest by far, even in small qty's and with exchange rates and shipping factored in...
Well, they are for anyone down in Australia as far as I know! Terry is great with emails and stuff too so yeah, reliable...They're located in Canada.
A lot of ppl also go with Divineo. They have a UK site you could check prices on. www.divineo.co.uk.
Thats my 2 cents worth unless anyone can save me some money!!! ;)
Mods aren't sold in the UK by Divineo anymore, since the courst ruling :(
