I've just started backing up DVDs and I was concerned with data life.Has anyone ran into the problem of "DVD rott". I've seen data projection on Verbatim of more than a 100 yrs of data life . I've burnt several hunderd CDs, and I have exprienced Sony brand CDs that have only lasted 3-4 months. Several other CD brands have also shown signs of "rott" in less than 1 yr. In the short time of DVD back-up, I can attest to the inconsistency of blank DVDs. It's a shame that a 10% failure rate is acceptable in the DVD manufacturing community.

Ive been backing up dvd's for about the past 4 years if not 5 by now. Ive noticed a few of my apple brand dvd-r's (which was all you could easily get back then) have gave me a few probs. Thing is, not all of them are like that. Most actually play very well. So it could have been just a bad disc or even a bad burn.

I wouldnt trust any cheap media like Princo on lasting too long though. Just look at the discs and youll know what I mean.
