i know you are able to backup your games onto your harddrive. i was woundering if i would beable, to backup a couple of my friends episodes onto the xbox. thanks justamy

First off its not a "backup" if your stealing copyrighted matierial via your friend. PLEASE DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS SUPPORTING PIRACY HERE.
Second, what kind of movies? Excuse me if the movies are not copyrighted.

you'd have to convert to divx or mpeg with your PC, then send to your xbox. There is a forum here for that too (the dvd2divx part).

Yah. You might have to select the dat video file to play it though. That is how it was in xbmp way back when.
It also supports .vob, but I am not sure xbox apps do dvd decypting, and vob files can grow quite large.
