View Full Version : IRC Channel Now Live
Some of you have mentioned that you would like to see FileForums have an IRC Channel. Well we are now pleased to tell you that the FileForums Channel is now live on the EFNET IRC Network. Even though the Channel has now gone live, its worth pointing out it is going to be run like an experiment.
If the Channel is successful, which we hope it will be, then long may it continue. If the Channel falls apart, which some people have predicted, then it will be closed forever.
We hope the Channel will be more relaxed then the actual website. Random ramblings will be allowed! Keep in mind, there will be a strict policy of NO WAREZ ALLOWED.
Again, Thats...

Irc is in first line a chat.
you need a script to get connected to the servers.
Userfriendly is mirc. But there are a lots of them, for every behaviour.
Install or extract the script.
start the script (here for example mirc)
For users who start irc first time:
Go to the optionsmenu.
In the tree go to connect. Enter your nickname, somekind of emailaddress and a fake name in the fields.
now go to servers
in the field irc network, choose EFnet.
the go on in the category connect -> options. There you see some marking fields. Mark the fields connect on startup and reconnect on disconnection.
so click on okay.
Now you can click on the button connect to server in the upper left. The status window should now show something like:
[11:29am] * Connecting to irc.efnet.net (6667)
[11:29am] * Unable to connect to server (Connection attempt timed out)
[11:30am] * Connect retry #1 216.193.223.223 (6667)
[11:30am] Notice: [216.193.223.223] *** Looking up your hostname...
[11:30am] Notice: [216.193.223.223] *** Checking Ident
[11:30am] Notice: [216.193.223.223] *** Found your hostname
[11:30am] Notice: [216.193.223.223] *** No Ident response
[11:30am] Welcome to the EFnet Internet Relay Chat Network Munsterbu
[11:30am] Modes: +i
Now type in the field where the cursor is blinkink: /join #fileforums
There you are.
When you are already using a script
Type /server -m irc.efnet.net -m /join #fileforums

Don't be shy
First 25 new chatters get a cookie*
Head over to www.mirc.com (http://www.mirc.com) and download what you need to connect - it should be pretty straight forward for new users - join an efnet server and join channel #Fileforums
BW has a webcam active and is preparing his 'python' act for later tonight - 10pm GMT sharp. Don't miss out!
*Cookie is an intangible asset with monetary value of 0.0000000000001 GBP. You may not receive anything.
hey i got my cookie hours ago but it was however a bit short on the choc chips! ;)
The #FileForums is a good thing :) . BUT:
Nobody is there when I go look. I'm GMT +1, so when I'm up on mIRC, nobody is there cuz everybody is in either shcool or working in the US. Nobody from the rest of the world to chat with???
I'm recently having trouble reaching the #FileForums. When I connect to efnet.irc.net, it joins me to #BitlBee and I cannot join #FileForums saying "Group chat with #FileForums is not allowed". What now?

The easiest way to get on to the IRC networks is by using a program called mIRC. which is freely available at http://www.mirc.com
forget the scripts, mirc comes with standard stuff - when you download the program you it will have a list of servers already in there - just try and connect to any of the EFNET servers and then to get into the channel you want.. just type /join #whatevertheChannelNameIs
get it?
very simple...
have fun..
