Has anyone ran across a prog that will scan a blank DVD disc to see if any part of the surface has any errors before writing??? I've tried Nero CD/DVD Speed but it will only scan a written dics. I would like to scan for errors before writing to dics. I bought a 50 pack of TDKs (TTG02) through BestBuy and I did'nt have any problems for the first 15-20, now I'am hitting alot of bad disc.

I think Old Record Now Max had the "Test before write" option. It actually goes through all the motions of writing the disc all the way to the end without really writing it. That way you dont accidentally make a coaster.
Now, Im not sure if its 100% accurate but I do know it takes twice as long as regular burning. :p

Thanks for the reply. It already takes about an hour to burn a disc. 2X as long would be way to much. But, now that that you mentioned RecordNow has a pre-scan-write feature, I remember Nero has the same feature.
Doing a test run does not check the media itself (the laser is disabled)
There is, to my knowledge, no software which checks an empty media for errors before writing to it. There is however software which checks how good (or bad) a written media is by check the amount of (correctable/non-correctable) errors

Are you sure about the laser being off Empire? I wasnt aware of that.
