Im trying to backup my copy of Resident Evil 2 but I am getting the same problems as speedking. See http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=66122 I get the same error. I have Clonedvd2 2.5.4.3 and Anydvd 4.3.0.1 and no luck. I also got dvd decrypter 3.5.1 I tried the dvd decrypter and it started extracting the files but im getting lots of read errors. I am currently using default settings as I have never used this before. Please help. Thanks. :)

Ok the fix for this is to get VobBlanker and have it process your movie. I have used it to make a backup of my Resident Evil Apocalypse movie and it worked great. VobBlanker works just like DVDDecrypter but it fixes the problems that this dvd has. Afterwards just use CloneDVD2 as normal. Also keep in mind that you may have to have Anydvd disabled before using VobBlanker.

Get VobBlanker here: http://www.posunplugged.com/jsoto/tools/VobBlanker_1603_exe.zip

Its freeware so be greatful.

Thanks for the help but I still can't get it to work. I turned off anydvd and used the following settings. See link. http://img94.exs.cx/img94/4264/vobblanker17bl.jpg
Then I pressed process and got this error. See link.

Im not sure if I have the right settings so I put the links. Please help. Thanks.

the Author of DVD Decrypter has released a fix for this movie in here,
http://forum.dvddecrypter.com/index.php?showtopic=15390 ( you should register first)
anybody cares to try it since I don't have this movie yet.

All I had to do was put REA in my dvd reader and under "Input" I browsed to that reader and all the way to VIDEO_TS.IFO.

Then I left everything as is in VOBBlanker except for where I wanted the finished product to come out. Then I pressed "PROCESS!!" at the very bottom of the screen.

Thanx Tyler, it worked like a charm. :)

Ok. I tried the VobBlanker and couldn't get it to work. I probably have a wrong setting. I posted the screenshots ontop with the errors and settings(See my previous post). I tried the fix khafan posted and it worked. I have the movie in my hard disk. Now I tried to use the Clonedvd to compress but I am getting the same error as before. Nothing has changed. Is there any way arround this? Thanks. :)

try dvdshrink to compress it.

Yeah I had a problem with VOBBlanker with that dvd in my AO7 so I put it in my Toshiba reader and it worked fine. Im guessing that some people will have probs but there are other solutions.

If you get VOBBlanker to work your files will work on CloneDVD2 I dont know about the patched DVDDecrypter as I havent had to try it.

Thanks khafan!!! I ran into the same problem as JPunisher. Then I used DVD Shrink (awesome Freeware, plus you get to see the movie in high speed while it is compressing). DVD Shrink also allows you to burn right from that program if you have Nero installed. I dont use Nero, so I took my compressed file and used CloneDVD 2. It worked like a charm.

make sure "perform deep analyze" has been selected in the "quality setting", it'll compress the movie in 2 pass. ;)

Thanks for the heads up. So can we expect all Columbia-Tri-Star to be like this. I saw other posts about Gothica and The Missing having similar issues.

TylerDurden

I dont know about "The Missing" but I can tell you that I had no problems with "Gothica" whatsoever using just plain old anydvd.

Not to beat a dead horse, but has anyone narrowed down the issue with Resident Evil. When I tried DVD X-Copy, it would freeze while reading it. My other programs wouldnt even get that far. While the fix worked, I thought VOBBlanker would take forever. Anyway to speed that up?

TylerDurden
30-12-2004, 11:24
No way to speed it up, that I know of. It took me about 30min to properly read it with vobblanker. Heck you only gotta do it once.

Beta version of AnyDVD is available now to handle this protection.

Dear all,

I have prepared an AnyDVD beta for testing:

http://update.slysoft.com/SetupAnyDVD4400.exe

4.4.0.0 (beta), 2004 12 29

- New: Added support for a new version of the "Sony ARccOS
protection" as found on "Resident Evil - Apocalypse" (US)
to the option to remove "Protection based on unreadable
Sectors"
- Some minor fixes and improvements
- Updated languages

As I only have the .ifo files (the disc is still on the way from the USA) I was not able to test it myself.

I hope you like it!
I hope it fixes the problems with "Resident Evil - Apocalypse" (US) or other discs!

Hey all it worked for me great info!!
I used VobBlanker V1.6.0.3.
And I used AnyDVD V4.3.0.1
Then I used CloneDVD V2.5.4.3.

I have a Lite-on DVDRW SOHW-1633S Firm BSOR
Lite-On DVD Rom HD-166S Firm DS1E
Running XP Pro SP1
AMD XP 2600+
1GB PC3200
2X Hitachi Deskstar 120BG HDD

Yep Great JOB!!

Did ANYDVD do the compressing, because I had to use DVD Shrink after the VOBBlanker stage, then I went straight to the CloneDVD 2.

@Skelaratus,

The only thing anydvd does is decrypt the movie from copy protections. Its not a shrinker of any sorts.

So in the following scenario from Snowdog74:

I used VobBlanker V1.6.0.3.
And I used AnyDVD V4.3.0.1
Then I used CloneDVD V2.5.4.3.

How did it fit on the 4.7 GB DVD-r? After my VOBBlanker stage I had files totaling 6.92 GB. Can VOBBlanker also remove files to decrease on space. I am kinda new at this so please excuse the million questions.

The new beta version of any dvd works great.. Just ran it in the background and used clonedvd2

When I use CloneDVD I pick the VOB file I want to copy I didn't add all the extra crap. I had a selection of two VOB files that were in a time context of about 1 hr and 32 min a piece. I chose VOB 2 and coppied that using CloneDVD. Remeber where you save all your files after using VobBlanker because that is where you need to point CloneDVD to after you use it. Then with your CloneDVD you have the filmstrip to the left to pick and choose what you need added to the DVD. Hope this helps.

Hello All,

I ripped the REA to my hdd using DVD Decrypter. Everything works fine when you view the DVD from the HDD. I was attempting to use CloneDVD2
v. 2.5.4.3 to burn my .vob and .ifo files to a dvd but I keep getting an error.
I have a Lite-On SOHW-1633S burner. Can someone please help me out.

Thanks

BHW

Thanks all. I got it to work.

Summary--(for bhw)
1. The dvd decrypter passes the files to the hard drive but with the protection I think, so you can't use the clonedvd. If you use this method then you use the shrink dvd. (Method I used)
2. If you have Vob Blanker, this removes the protection and lets you use the clonedvd. (Tyler used this method)
3.khafan says there is a new anydvd beta for this protection. You can use clonedvd with this method. (haven't tried it yet but worked for Neipas02)

hope this helps. :) Thanks again all.

I used VobBlanker V1.6.0.3. to decode
DvDsHrink 3.2 to compress to ISO file
Virtual Daemon Manager V3.33 (To load ISO to virtual drive...
loading ISO to drive isn't needed...you could just load ISO file in Nero...just a habit... I like using virtual drive)
Nero 5.5.10 to copy Disc to Disc (If no Virtual Daemon Manager V3.33 so copy in ISO)

Dude, I mentioned how to use vobblanker earlier in this thread. Anyways, the latest version of Anydvd beta fixes any problems with Resident Evil Apocolypse and Little Black Book.
