Hello.

Please forgive me if this is covered somewhere else, I tried searching and checking the info sticky with no luck.

I have a V1 NTSC PS2 which I bought back when the PS2 was first released (literally the first week it came out in the U.S.)

It crapped out about a year and a half ago so I opened it up and increased the laser voltage a bit and have had no problems since, (and with heavy usage I might add...)

I want to get it modded so I checked around this site and settled on NorCalMods.com. I went to the aforementioned site and found out that they seem to only mod V3 or higher, unless you send them your PS2 + your mod chip of choice I guess.

But anyway after that I did a bit more checking around, and thought about just doing it myself which lead me to another question, being: How hard is it to just do the modding yourself? I have had experience soldering before, but it was when I built a PS2 Arcade Stick (alot more room for error). Also I have personally built 3 computers from scratch.

Or is it not even worth it to mod a V1 in the first place?

Thanks for any imput.

No, its not worth modding a v1 PS2. You already had to adjust the laser to read originals so it may not even read dvdr media. I would sell the PS2 and get a Premodded console from Norcalmods. If your not a experienced chip installer then i wouldnt attempt it myself. Get a Pro. Also, i would try to find a v10 over the new PStwo.

... Darn, I was hoping that wouldn't be the case...

How would I go about finding a v10, do they still sell them at the store, or would I have to go through Ebay or something?

Ebay or mainly just asking around.
