There are many different versions of DVD-Rs with Ritek G04-dye over here: Ritek labeled and unlabeled, silver and white printable, Ridata, "Grade-A-Media", Ridisc, Primedisc, 1Tek, The One, Arita, Traxdata, Fortis... Does anyone know which one is the best or at least if one of these brands/labels is 100% reliable?

I use the regular silver top media myself. As long as its go4 dye your ok. The only other difference is the top surface of the dvdr. Some are silver with the Ritek label printed on the top, some have a white blank printable surface. Others have a blank silver surface.

Isn't Compatibility with the burner an issue anymore?

I tried some Ritek RiDisc and they were awful...movie back-ups and PS2...the DVDs kept skipping (on all players) and FMVs on the PS2 were skipping also...but i think they were G05.

But i only got them because they were out of RiData G04 with a purple label with the bottom third creamy/white for writing...they are the best so good i bought 150 of them...cos they always sell out.

The Go5 dye seems to get mixed results from different users

Yep, G05 where reported to be unreliable. And I heard that (at least in Europe) Ritek sell many B-Grade-G04s to be labelled by other companies (especially Traxdata, Princo(?) and Arita, they wrote), and without any label. So to be on the safe side, one should not get unlabelled ones or other companies, but the A-Grade Ritek-owned-labels Ridata and Primedisc (French company). At least thatīs what they say. Did anyone have problems with Ridata G04s yet? And is there a difference between printalbes (white and silver) or non-printables? And are there DVDs out there with a "Ritek" label on it?

I haven't had any problems whatsoever with Ridisc DVD-R (G04), although their Ritek CD-R is rife with errors and problems :mad:

Well, seems there are different experiences with the Ridiscs then. Thanks for the pics, skykid! I think they are G04s, as G05 are always 8x as far as I know. Could find them rather cheap on nierle.com (25 Euro for 50). The Ridata ones are extremely expensive, 1,80 Euro per piece is just ridiculous. So might I be on the safe side with the Ridiscs? And what do you think of these, Ritek labelled? http://www.artandhobby.org/images/ritekpurple4xdvdrmontage.jpg
But are a bit more expensive then Verbatims with TY-dye, are they worth the higher price?

I don't think you'll have any problems with the Ridisc...

lufcfan, it must be my burner then (Sony DW-U18a) it only likes the RiData.

I noticed that on DVDDecrypter it stated the RiDisc (Top Image) as being G05, when on the site i bought them it said G04 and now it says G05 (must be because of my complaint).

They were truly awful...on two batches...so i put it down to the dye...or the burner eiether way the RiData is the best for me...its just that the specific ones i get (bottom pic) are so hard to find.

I've been using RiData discs and thus far no problems. But the ones I'm using has the same label design but only in gold/matt gold colors (not purple/white)...so what are those that I'm using?:confused:

Hey skykid, found the Ridatas you are looking for at this place Ridata DVD-R G04 (http://www.dvd-discount.it/shop/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=116) where they sell them for 25 Euro per 50x cakebox. If you live in Europe that should be okay for you, donīt you think? Has got just a german and an italian laguage version, but I suppose everything selfexplaining. I ordered the Ritek ones (see the picture of my yesterdays post) today at a different site and hope they are perfect. Ritek-label on them should guarantee A-grade, though Ridisc was a lot cheaper.

@Skykid
Nope, you must have had some clones then as 4x RiDisc are always G04 - if it was indeed G05, then you must have had the 8x version, in which case, you have the wrong picture, lol :)

Not sure of that, lufcfan. In another forum a guy reported major problems with Ridiscs that looked exactly that way and were 4x labeled. He had bought them as G04s, but checking the dye-type they obviously were G05s. When he reported this to the reseller they took them back and changed the dye-info on their website to G05. And quite often you can find ads with Ridiscs that say "G04/G05" and show pictures of 4 x DVD-Rs. So there seem to be 4x out there with G05-dyes, strange world!

Hmm. Very - these I have here though are G04 and I haven't had a coaster from them in 50 discs on my Lite-On 832S DL burner at 4x...
