Hi had a duo2 se installed yesterday. My mate an electonics engineer installed it and checked it twice. When he turns it on the fan and disk spin, the television selects the correct AV channel however it stays there with a black screen. He has since de-soldered the chip leaving the 17 wires taped up and the ps2 is working again. Do you think its a dud chip or is something not been done correctly (a boot sequence maybe). What normally happens if a modchip fails. Bought the chip from www.xraychips.com and it a v5 or v6 ps2. Appreciate all help and thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like one or more of the wires was swapped for another. Might have just been a simple mistake like that. This can happen even if you have checked it twice, as the second time you check you are going in with the same mind set as the initial install, approach sitautions like this as if it was the first time you have seen the install.
If a chip is defective however it can give the same results as what you have described, so its not totally out of the question.
Hmm... Yeah, I currently own a dodgy Duo2 SE - I'm waiting for a response from the place where I bought it from. So it just goes to show, it isn't out of the question to get a bad one... :)
But hey, sh*t happens ;)

Black Screen? Got the same Problem, but it was the RESET/EJECT cable?!

Funny coincidence here, I just got a call last night that a Duo2 SE I put on a V9 stopped working. The PS2 just black screens when turned on. They’ll probably drop it off today.
Hmm... Do you think they have some production problems??? ;)

Well, I don’t know what I should do! I just got the V9 Station and when I hit reset it would power for about 2 seconds with the loud buzzing of the worm gear going nuts then power off. I took the drive cover off and powered it on again to get a good look at what the laser was doing and it worked! All I did was remove the cover, not even the tray. It’s been running Burnout 3 for 20 minutes now with the lid off ( white magnet dropped on the DVD ).
Apparently it had been working fine until they tried to play a CDR based backup then locked up and powered off as it was. I guess I’ll have to play test it for a while with some different media. I hate these flaky V9’s!!

Take into account the Duo2 se is the most popular chip for versions 3-10 & you'll get an idea as to the volume produced. We have to accept that there will be faulty chips (less than 1% in my experience). A bad batch or production problems would be BIG news m8.
I think most peeps will agree that 'faulty' Duos are exchanged without fuss.
