Need for Speed Underground 2 problem

After playing the game without problems for a few days, today when I tried to play, the game acted as if I was constantly holding the up arrow on my keypad. Whenever I go to an options menu or anything where i can scroll up/down the up button is constantly blinking green and it is making the sound. Any suggestions as to what this problem is and how to fix it are greatly appreciated.

I have a illegal version of the game
but somehow when i go drive the game is running very slow and not very good ( on a pentium 4 2.60 gig with an ati radeon 9600 )
What could be the prolem of it ...
