matrix infinity and ps1 back-ups

hi, ive chipped my firends v5 ps2. the install seems fine playing ps2 cd/dvd games althou im having trouble setting up the laser to read everything, but my main problem at the moment is when i can get the ps2 to play a ps1 disk (normally while tuning the cog) as soon as it starts to load the disk (just b4 the psx logo) the system resets itself and then goes on to load the game the second time around in the usual way? has anyone come across this at all?

aso any suggestions on the hight/level of the laser carrage would be very helpful. thanks

Try upgrading the Firmware - It might work...

i have done that already as the chip is the homebrew one and had to be flashed after installation. (1.38 firmware)

Check the Y and SCEX wires :)
