Yep, sounds like a laser issue. My copy does that, along with my copy of MGS3. Well, a lot of people have had trouble with MGS3 skipping and such in the codecs. Anyway it definitely sounds like a laser issue IMO. I don't believe it's the modchip b/c the game is already playing on your system.... So I'm guessing it's the laser, yep the laser :D (Correct me if I'm wrong ;) )

wheres the best place 2 get a replacement laser unit?
It may be a laser issue, but just recently i have had the same probs with NFSU2 all my other games work, The gurus in here sau its a media issue rather than a laser issue. Newer games apparently a bit more pickier on what media it should go on.
Out of interest what media are u using ?
My guess is this game loads data "on the fly". The laser is a little weak and has a hard time keeping up.

I guess I'm not the only one with MGS 3 Problem..Every game works great but with this game so I got really annoyed..Not sure about everyone else but with me right in the begining when after Snake gets the Back pack and starts talking to Boss eventually, it skips after that thru out the whole game it has no problems. I even test it out on my cousin's V7 (I GOT V10) and guess what? No skipping except for he's case was that on the way to getting the backpack he felt a slight freeze other than that he said everything played all the way thru without a skip..Hm..
Oh well..At least I'm not the only one in the MGS 3 SKipping Club..
Might as well get the jump Rope and start with Young Girls in the neighborhood.. :D
BTW I used Ritek G04 and TDK just to experiment..

You want to decrease the Ohms, and to do this you would turn the pot clockwise, also dont go below 800 Ohms on either pot or you just might fry your laser all together. It doesnt take much of an adjustment to make a big value change either. Take the pots down just enough to where it reads well. The lower you set the ohms the more voltage your supplying to the laser diode, coils, and everything else which will just wear things out even faster now. You may want to try adjusting the white cog as well. Before you start fiddling around with either make sure you jot down your original settings so you can back yourself out if you need to.
The problems with the games you are having, I have been hearing about for some time now, this is nothing new and not your chip or install so you can relax in that regard.

i know im the electrical engineer in the making :)
before messin with the laser pots try adjustin the height of the laser so its slightly closer to the disc. Usually does it for me.
This "skippin/freezin" has always bin a bit of a problem. Lots of people suffered from it with GTA Vice City backups as that also streams off the disc. As mentioned it just pushin the laser a bit too far.

right hehe i got a result bought the ps2 for 20 pounds yeah. and fixed the pots all all that and i found out it was a media problem the ritek dvds i got are a dud. I think we should inform people about the quality of ritek disks this is the 3rd batch of dodgy ritek disks now. Im fed up! im gonna get some verbatim ones from play.com for 17 pounds atleast there decent ones!
I quit using Ritek a couple of months back for this very problem, they changed the dye. I been purchasing Taiyo Yuden dvd-r from www.rima.com. They load as fast as originals. Give them a try Sean :)
