Hey guys i have a bit of a prob and maybe u can help me out of here :
I live in holland so i use the AR2 and PaL system.
- A friend of mine installed the neo 2.2 for me , according to the schema at maxking.com for the action replay.
- Here is wat i have : A ps2 with the v4 motherboard , Neo 2.2 , Action Replay 2 Ver. 1.6 .
- I have tried the swap trip with the games : Extreme G 3 (pal) , Bloody Roar 3 (pal) and Tony Hawk 3 (ntsc). All the games are patched and burned with Fireburner because CDRWiN doesn't support my writer.
This is what happend :
- I tried the swap trick with the AR2 the normal way , and it HANGS on "Loading" , strange. I also tried the buttons O+R1 insted of X.
- Then i tried the EA swap trip , u have to hold the Power switch untill u come in the menu of the AR2 and then let go, and the the cd-drawer have 2 come out, whel not with me!! :(
All the Original games does work , ps2 and ps1 games.
Am i doing something worng?!?!? Does anybody else have this prob. ?!?! Or is my ps2 broke??
Plzz help me m8's.

If the disk tray won't come out. it's usually faulty modchip installation. I recall from past posts of a similar kind, put a magnifying glass on the wire destinations from pins 5 & 6 and see if there's a something dodgy there.

Thanks i will look for it. and what u meen is the same diagram that i used at www.maxking.com for the aR2?
Vinnie-m2tm
Yes - pins 5 & 6 are adjacent and it is possible, especially if not using a 1mm tip, to solder the two pins together. Acording to previous posts (it hasn't happened to me), this inhibits the tray eject.

There are two ways to install the neo2.2, a 5 wire install which doesn't support the ea boot method and the 8 wire install. If you have the 8 wire install and the tray wont open after holding reset for 10 seconds then the install is dodgy. Like charlie stated pins 5 and 6 crucial. here's what each pin controls PIN #1 = supplies + (power) to the chip
PIN #2 = sends SCE signal out to PS 2
PIN #3 = PS 2 drive tray pulse tells the BA5810FP chip whether to expect a drive tray open or close
PIN #4 = checks/signals RESET button on the PS 2
PIN #5 = closes PS 2 drive tray
PIN #6 = opens PS 2 drive tray
PIN #7 = checks if game CD is PSX/PS 2 (If PS 2, immediately stops SCE signal & restarts when a "tray close" is seen. If PSX, it stops after about 15-20 seconds)
PIN #8 = supplies ground to the chip

I had the same problem as you, using a neo 2.2 chip and the ar2 disk and cart thing that you plug into the memory card slot.I could play all non ea games but ea games no chance. What i did was go out and buy a xtreme fm disk, place the extreme fm disk in the drive use the ea method ie.hold in the power button, the extreme fm disk logo will boot then you will hear it boot down thats when you let go.the extreme disk has now loaded and it will show a fancy screen. The disk tray opens about 3 seconds later but it will not be spinning put in your copy and press the x button.the tray will go back in then go down to play and press x,it will ask you to press x to load and o to cancel press x and away goes your ea copy.Appariently there is a delay in the realease of the tray using a neo 2.2,this is normal where as the neo 2 opened straight away with the disk spinning.Hope this helps you out

Well guys i appreciate all your comments.
But nothing works :(.
I checked all the pins ( my friend had a couple joints before going to solder ) , the were all good (thank the lord). So i dont see the prob there, maybe it is just my AR2 ?
Because NON-EA games didn't work 2 u know. And the guy above says that that works with him, well not with me :(:(:(
And damn man u serious about buying a Fm .... ( didn't remember its name ). A i think i be cheaper off in buying the originals lol.
If u know what i should do next , plzz say so :)

Vinnie-m2tm: same problem here. Though my Action Replay version is 1.9 and German. And the EA mode (holding reset) solves half of my problem. Now only half of the games do not work... The simple method, using the disk swapping just hangs my machine, and that is not because of the modchip or the wires. I checked these many times, replaced the chip, the wires, installed the things in another PS2, and the same happens. Non EA games just hangs at Loading screen, that's it. I hope I'll be able to narrow down the problem somehow but I am to belive that the card (AR 1.9) is my problem. I'll test another version of the card in a few days and will tell you the result.

Guys,
Get yourself a REGION X they boot games alot better then the AR2. I use the REGION X with my NEO2.2 and have not had any problems booting EA Games or other.
Check out www.psxcopyworld.co.uk on there you will find my booting methods for the REGION X.
Have you made some of your backups yourself or have you got them from a third party????
I use CLONE CD to make my backups and have no problems booting.
Goodluck

Thanks for all your support guys.
DaL:
I rented these games at a videoshop and then burned the using CloneCD yes. :)
$tephen :
I cant wait to heard the results u will have ??? ;)
BTW. Chalie :
I soldered the pins using this diagram : ####://www.thebarras.co.uk/gh10.jpg , i used the HEX codes from maxking but they told me u do NOT have to solder the capacitator.
Is that a MUST or not , if yes then that maybe my problem?!?!?
Vinnie
I don't have a capacitor installed either. I think the capacitor stops the spinning before ejecting the tray. I might be wrong. Why not try it although I'm not optimistic because the mechanism doesn't need a capacitor to obey the eject command.
But your last post opens up a whole new can of whooppee. You have a home grown NEO2.2 using downloaded hex codes. That's like downloading games off the internet and hoiping they'll work too - and you should see the grief that comes into the forum from those poor sods.
With a bit of luck, others on the forum who have the same Hex source or others who have another Hex source that works can advise.

Well charlie ,
My friend always used the HEX codes from maxking and always no problemo , he began downloading the hex-codes there when the Ps1 was just released ( and thats a long time ago now lol ) , and they always worked just perfect , he has build hundreds of playstations with their codes , so i dont think the Hex codes are the prob.
I will just wait untill i hear a word from $tephen , and see what that other AR2 does. ;)

Going back to your first post, these are DVD Rips, aren't they? Have you taken them round to your friend's PS2 to see if they play? We do seem to have a number of variables.
By the way - DAL is right. DVD Region X is the best swap method around. Much easier than AR2.

Hmmm...i'm one of those lazy guys who dont like those swapping stuff
to play a game hehe...but Neo4 is out and that is a non swap chip
Wouldnt it be easier to use that? Also there should be another no swap chip out really soon called messiah...ugh.Hmmm well i got sort of a question here too,is it possible to rip the dvd games for the psx2?
So that they'll fit on a 700mb disc, its worked for psx1 games but will it work for psx2?

Charlie :
No there not DVD-rips , i haven't tried that yet. And that friend of mine doesn't have a ps2 :(:(. Thats just my prob. i cant test i anywhere , none of mine friends have one ( Chipped that is ).
Blodfrost:
Yes there is a chip called messiah comming and saying that it is better than the Neo4. And the big difference between them is that the neo4 has 44 wires and the messiah only 23. Here is a list:

So that's the best advice I can give. Find another PS2 with a modchip (your chip burning friend will surely know to whom he has supplied ...). Or try DVD Region X.
OR:
Do what Willy from Norway did. Send me ONE of the offending disks (prefereably Tony Hawkes) from which you are trying to make a copy. I'll a) try it b) copy it if it works c) try the copy d) send the result back to you.
Send me an e-mail from the button on this post.
