Ok guys need some help. Got a silver ps2 50003 model. Got an infinity chip fiited about 4 months ago. The Station has now become erractic in loading games, put a lens cleaner in sometimes helps this.

Big deal but tonight things seemed to turn worse, while playing a game the screen went blank and the red led on front started flashing... It wont reboot or switch off in this state, only removing the power lead sets it back up but after 5 mins or so after reloading game it reverts back to this state.

Any ideas please...

Thanks

Maybe it's an overheating problem - but I can't quite remember exactly...

is the fan working at the back if it is then get a small pant brush and clean out the front grill on your ps2 then hover the grill and the fan at the back then try it, some times is the ps2 cant get a air flow though it if the grill is blocked and this will hove heat it
hope this helps

Ok thanks dudes I'll give it a whirl...

Also updated the infinity to 1.35 :)

Sometimes find I need to reset the machine a few times before chip kicks in, anyone had that sort of problem.... ?

Once it does load then there is no problem after that...

Yes I have seen that a few times. Why it does that I dont know.

You may want to try this boot procedure as well.

From standby (red reset light) tap eject once, the PS2 will turn on, the tray will open, then put in your disc, tap reset once. The tray will close and the PS2 will reboot, and boot your disc right up.

Sounds like you have a faulty LA6508 Chip. Its a classic problem to affect your model of machine.

Pretty easy to sort out for a competent modder.

You need to take your machine to a modder and ask them to replace the LA6508 Chip with a bypass chip called a LA6508R chip. The original chip in the 50003 machines is designed to burn out if a poor quality copy is installed. This fault can sometimes take the laser out too!! try not to use the machine at all untill the repair has been carried out. The LA chip controls the Focus of the laser eye. If the LA chip goes the result is the ps2 pushing too much voltage out to the laser and buring out one or both of the focus coils in the laser.

Sorry to bore you but its quite a technical problem??? I have replced over 30 LA chips now and certainly sorts out your machine.

good Luck. :-)

I doubt sony engineered this defect, as I know of situations where the LA would fail even on un-modded consoles and only useing originals games. This is more likely just Sonys shotty manufacturing.

The LA clones that you speak of are "O.K" but there days you can get an original LA for not much more money and perform the Romeo mod to it while your replacing it.

This repair is NOT for the average modded/installer regardless of if you use the original LA or the clone.
