Apparently this guy discovered after their dye change the discs are only reliable up to 75% of the disc.

I've got TY's here that burned at the end far better than any Ritek I have, and I've known about that since last march.
Personally, I would rate TY's twice a good as Ritek's and Ritek's 4 times as good as princo's.
Dang man, shoulda let us all in. In the latest "What's the best DVD's?" threads people are still touting Ritek's as the leader.
So what does TY stand for?
TY = Taiyo Yuden
I have some Ritek CD-R and my new writer is very hit and miss with them, I must say, but the DVD-R I have from Ritek is excellent :) - as it always has been might I add...
Well if Taiyo Yuden seems to be the good stuff. They'll be my next purchase.
These guys have a good proce. $0.55 each.

But the guy who is doing the review wasn't reviewing the G04 or G05, he was reviewing a different dye from Ritek, RitekM02.
"Its over a year ago I published an article referring to Ritek discontinuing the well loved G03, G04 & G05 dye formulation, and on the forum I published it in I was ridiculed that Ritek would even think of such a thing.
Well it has happened and the first disc I come across is RIDATA printable media with the MID code RITEKM02 it is recognised as a 4x speed disc and the writing layer is a light purple and not the deep purple we all love. "
That doesn't mean that Riteks aren't good or anything, just that the newer RitekM02 suck. The G04 and G05 may still be the hot **** to some! At least in my book it is :D
They still do sell the G04 and G05 media......
I think this thread is a bit misleading......
*Edit: mispelled and :D

so in short, the TY's are better than the new Riteks, but the G04's and G05's are still very good and equal to TY?

Yes Gtapex, I was about to say the exact same thing after I saw the code said Ritek M02.
At the moment I have about 25 ritek G04's and 50 TY's. So I am a happy camper. ESPECIALLY since I got them hell cheap. :D

Ok Ive come across an interesting problem myself. I bought some Ritek GO4 from Meriteline about a week ago. Well I noticed that the bottoms of them were very light colored. Kinda like how Ritek was when they first started off. Well I did a check on DVDinfo Pro and it states that I have GO5 dye discs.
Now Im am beginning to wonder if this has anything to do with my hacked Pioneer drive maybe giving a false positive for GO5 or if indeed these are really GO5.
Bad part is, I have 6 failed burns with this batch that I have purchased from Meritline. Maybe Ill try the TY's out when I run out of stock.

Well tyler, I have seen people getting weird results when they have Alcohol 120% installled.
I have heard of Verbatim metal azo discs identify themselves as Pthalocyanine discs when they are Azo discs.
If you have Alcohol120%, remove it temporarily and see if the discs identify as something else.
If not, then it seems they faked riteks atip codes.

Well, I have a hacked Pioneer 106D and I also have used Ritek G05. The g05's are also very dark in color, not light you said yours were. Oh and they also burnt excellently.
Sounds very fake and very dodgy to me. If I were you, I would ask for a refund, since they are fakes.
Think of it this way, if you buy a sony television, and came home to find out that it was an el-cheapo brand instead, you would ask for your money back.
Though I will be honest, they will probably be bitches to deal with and getting a refund may require some verbal ass whooping :p

It seems to be a popular trend with companies lately, to build up a good name with quality and value and then “cheap out” on the quality for extra profits.

Nah, Im not worried too much about it. I only bought a 25 pack. Not exactly a sony television. Ill buy from somewhere else next time.

Hmm sounds strange to me because ive always used riteks in my drive g03/g04 and i havent had 1 bad burn with them. As dvds are so cheap im gonna experiment with some new scratch proof tdks and some verbation azo ones they looks pritty cool.
I used to use ty cdrs and they were wicked

Uhhh, tdk armour DVDS are such a scam. All dvds are impossible to scratch fom the backside. You can make a gash but it wont affect the recording layer since the recording layer is in the middle of the disc.
So I would love to know how TDK make those dvds any tougher. Or am I mistaken and they have made the underside stronger or something?
