ok i have completed my install on a version9 with a matrix infinity. I put it back together, plug it in and it starts up fine and asks me the country i am in and timezone for daylight savings.

i pop in a disc and it doesnt do anything :( so i enter the browser and it says disc read error.

The first disc i put in was an original game(star ocean). and i have done the romeo mod to the 5volts. i have yet to put in a dvd backup. what could have caused this?

update on my situation

hmmm well i have taken it apart again because i noticed the matrix wasnt even installed according to the ps2, so i shortened the ground/3v3 wires and put it back and i seen infinity 1.2 under the ps2. so now i have the chip installed correctly i presume.

now i pop in an original ps2 and it works fine. i put in a psONE backup and it isnt fine. it goes to the red blocks and tells me to insert a psone or ps2 disc.

i have yet to try a ps2 dvd-r backup as i have none right now.

and a weird thing about the laser. before i was getting a disc read error, iwonder if that was due to the chip not being installed correctly... OR WHEN you take out the orange ribbon, i notice when you pull it, you pull along the laser unit also, could this be the problem to all problems with disc read errors?

i dont know if i fixed the disc read error by fixing the chip install, or i nudged the laser around a bit.

If the psone games don't work check the SCEX point which controls this.

so wait... technically. if i didnt want to play psx games i could just leave those out and be happy with my ps2 dvd-r's?

The guy who I am selling my PS2 to doesn't play PS1 games, nor does he own any PS1 games, but I still did the wires :)

Just gives it that 'complete' feeling, and you never know when you may need the PS1 function...
