I was just wondering what was the very first ps2 modchip was. and when did it camed out. :)

To my knowledge the first chip here in the US was a neo2, then shortly after came the updated 2.2 :rolleyes: . Sorry i dont remember exactly how long ago it was, maybe 6 or 8 months after launch.

If I remember correctly it was something very similar to the neokey. Except that the neokey came after it. It only played cd backups though. No dvd game backups were supported.

Yeah, Neo 2 Fondly known as the Laser killer.

Had one fitted. Used to directly boot ps1 backups but for ps2 CD based backups you need either Action Replay or DVD Region X to use as a boot disc. To make matters worse There was also about 5 different methods of booting using AR2 which made booting backups a pain in the Ass!

Thankfully direct boot mods came along!

The lasers were so bad though, would you have noticed any difference between having the Neo2 in a V1/2/3 installed or not (j/k) ;)
