does the ps2 play dvd-9 backups fine? I got some blank Verbatim Dvd-9's. I wanna make sure the ps2 will read backup dvd-9s fine before i start backing up these ps2 dvd-9 games.

From what I understand is that PS2's have proven to be real picky when it comes to DVD9. You can try it out. If you hear a lot of noise from your laser I would keep using them.

Heck some ps2's may not even read them.

I've used some of the Ritek based DVD9, and my V7 plays them perfectly fine with no excessive noise at all :)

You're s***ting me right? I just got V10 with Maxtrix 4 months ago and IF this is true with DL Discs then it's cause some problems..

V9/10 aren't good. Anyone has to admit that they are problematic, and until Sony fixes this, I wouldn't be upgrading. If my V7 were to die on me today, I'd find another V7, I certainly wouldn't be upgrading to a new console because I know they are trouble - more so than they are worth... :)

nor me... and I haven't been the owner from new. The person who had it before me played DVD Rips on it and it's still going as strong as ANY brand new out-of-the box PS2 I've seen... :)

lufcfan what program did you use to back up your DVD9 games? Cause DVD Decrypter isn't fully working with Dual-layer disks yet.

Sonic Record Now 7 Supports Dual layer as well..
Luc, u sure you're not talking from only Uk point of view?
B/c I heard lot of people do have hard time with v9-10 around UK but not too many around US maybe some no?
So far so good with me, It's past 4 months and going on 5..
I heard cases where some people get the V10's moddded and then they die within weeks but mine survived past beyond 4 months..
Maybe some machines are s**t, I don't know..

Well....A03 is some what right. The out break of the v9/10 syndrome never reached the point that it did in the European unions, however there where cases here in the US as well. In fact I had 2 V9's that had the syndrome but this was before the Romeo mod came about and ever since we have been doing the Romeo mod not a single v9/10 has had this problem. The one thing I can give props to the v9/10's is that they boot extremely fast! Way faster then any V7 ever did or will. Howerver the laser assembley in the v9/10's (not the laser its self) has some shotty parts. Like the metal worm gear that is very flexable and the drive cover only being held in place by two scews. I do like the two cog deal, gives more range of adjustment, but at the same time with more range of adjustment comes a harder to adjust laser.

Just my thoughts :D

Where you convert the LA chip from running at a 12v supply to a 5v supply to make it safer and prevent it blowing. Although, it is said that on the new V11 this doesn't seem to have an effect :(

Wow,
Ver.11 is coming out? Or u talkin about PsTwo?
I might considering getting this and getting it chipped..I don't know, all this talk about V9/10 damages..I ran lot of games on it it works fine with the Matrix chip but Like I said you gotta factor in that how you take care of the machine and what type of Disc you use etc..
Every machine I owned I took very good care of it b4 getting sold to anyone for that matter..Maybe I'm one of those lucky people..
It's like when Samsung Drive was a Rare Commodity for Xbox(People have been known to pay up to $100.00 or more for the the drive due to READ capability from what I heard) but when I bought mine brand new I got one with it and It works like a Charm till this day..

No, I'm talking about V11 with a completely new laser design... which seem to be failing in weeks instead of months... :(

so after this mod is done is the laser as good as a v7?

lufcfan
21-09-2004, 15:42
No... The lasers are still cheap crap that stop working prematurely (or at least they do here in Europe) - they just don't blow up any more...

Snake, read my post in the ultimate info sticky about the Rome mod under the thread "LA6/BA58 Driver Chip Behaviour" here is a link to it. Post #13 explains it all.
