Has anyone tried the gen 5 dye from Ritek? One would assume it's an upgrade of the G04, but who knows?

Does anyone have any info on G05 in regards to Ps2 backups?

hey,

I have personally not done any backups with that dye, but my friend ryan says he has done backups with this dye as thats all he can get at a local store. He pays £12 for 25 blanks.

He has noticed no difference, but has not had any problems or anything with them

In my experiance stick with G04.

The G05 i have used have been pants....the backups have jumpy FMV's and this can cause lock-ups.

Also there pants for DVD movies in my experience.

There ok for PC game back-ups though

So to summarise there just pants, unless its for a PC :p

I had used Ritek Ridisc 8x G05. And a Sony DWU-18a (OEM Version of the DRU-530a) on a v10 PS2 with Matrix Infinity.

The best media i have ever used has to be the RiData ones with Ritek G04 dye. Rock Solid Reliabilty for any purpose.

Too late I already ordered a 50 box from meritline, with the shiny surface.

Yea 50 G05's...they best work perfectly.

I've got a question regarding the G05's (I saw this thread and didn't want to make a new one so I'm using this one for now). My friend picked up a spindle of Memorex DVD-Rs. I noticed after looking at them that the bottom seems to be about the same as the Ritek Media. I borrowed one from him and placed it in my pioneer burner and ran dvd decrypter. I wanted to see what type of manufacturer it came from. Sure enough it said Ritek G05. I'm wondering now, would I be able to use these Memorex instead of actual Ritek media, since they both use the same dye? (My friend got it for cheap too, 50 pack 8x DVD-R Memorex for $43 Canadian! If it's all good, I might pick up a pack myself! What do you guys think? :D

As long as its really GO5 Id say go ahead and use it. But I wouldnt count on Memorex continuing using GO5 dye, Im sure they will find something cheaper.

I think I'm going to try test a few more of my friends dvdrs. Just to make sure, if they are G05, I'm picking me up a spindle! :D

Hmm, those Pink Arita sound a good deal. I just bought a pack of Ridisc G04 (and some Ritek Ridisc CD-R too, and my Plextor Premium loves to burn them at 52x :D ). I'll definately keep those in mind after I've finished with these G04s :)

I just bought a 50 pack spindle of Ritek G05 from newegg.com. It only cost me $21.99 US with $4.00 shipping. I had the disks delivered within 2 days. Ok. I did a test just for your benefit =o)

I backed up a game on the G04 (Ritek) and it worked just fine

Then I backed up the same game using my G05 (Ritek). This also worked fine, but I did notice that I heard the laser spinning less on the G05 burn. Also, there was an FMV in the beginning of the game that skipped a little on the G04 but did not at all on the G05. I dont think this really made a difference.

Now to be silly (or extremly bored), I backed up the same game using a cheapie G01 (TDK). What happened here was that the game would not autoload and forced me to go to the browser and load from there, wheras the other two auto-loaded.

All media types were verified using DVD Info Pro.
