I did a search and I found this http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=273507&hl=modem
After reading this I notice I won’t be able to hook up to my Xbox with only dial up. so my question is what would be the cheapest way to hook up my Xbox to my PC I would prefer if you could recommend external devices for I don’t have to open up my PC.

I understand that I need a crossover cable but besides this, what else do I need

No matter what, you will need a network card. Other than that, you just need a crosscable. You plug it from your xbox, to your PC.

After that, you just set an IP for you PC, and with an xbox app like evox or avalaunch, set a static Ip for your xbox.

its not anything like logging onto the internet dial up cable or dsl have nothing to do with the pc and the xbox connection like he said a nic or network interface card 15-40 bucks at any best buy or other comparable stoer and a crossover cable long enough to reach the xbox from the pc good luck and for more info read the stickies!
